In the hills west of Portland, where the elite have lived since the 1880s, sits the former mansion of William MacMaster, a financier and businessman who made his fortune in an economic boom in the last part of the 19th Century. His house, now a classic bed and breakfast, still sits high above the city next to Washington Park. Built in 1886, the huge, Queen Anne-style mansion has seven guest rooms and several other common rooms or showpiece rooms.
