City's centerpiece |
Southwest Park (Washington Street) Portland, OR 97205 +1 503 823 2223 http://www.portlandparks.org/Parks/OBryantSq |
This award-winning city square is named after Hugh Donaldson O'Bryant, Portland's first mayor. The half-acre was bequested to Portland in 1971; five years later, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development recognized its design with a national award. Once the location of a famous vaudeville theater, the block remains one of Portland's most popular gathering places. The rose-shaped bronze fountain provides a magnificent centerpiece for the city.
