This branch of the National Gallery displays art by Czechs (or foreign artists working in Bohemia ) dating back to the late Renaissance and Baroque periods. There are Mannerist landscapes and allegorical pictures from Emperor Rudolf II's court, including paintings by von Aachen, Spranger and Savery, as well as baroque sculpture and paintings by some of the leading Czech artists of the time such as Brandl, Braun and Brokof. The art is housed in the first monastery to be built in Bohemia, dating from around 973. Review © 2009, Wcities |
