Amigos

Am-Mex cooking with Czech touch
Anny Letenske 16/916
Prague 12000
Czech Republic
+420 2 2225 0594
Teli Sevalis would be proud to dine at Amigos (formerly Kojak's), hiding unassumingly on a corner in the charming Vinohrady neighborhood. The down-to-earth joint specializing in Am-Mex cooking has a living room feel, perfect for unwinding after a long day—detective or otherwise. The telephone book sized menu in both English and Czech spans the world of American cooking with steaks and baked potatoes along with a clever twist to Czech cuisine. The huge Tex-Mex selection of burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas or chimichangas hint that someone in the kitchen has spent time Stateside. Try the excellent Black Bean Soup as a starter before digging in to entrees.

Azteca

Czech-Mex and Spanish influences
Ujezd 66
Prague 15000
Czech Republic

http://www.azteca.cz/
Azteca is considered the Speedy Gonzalez of 'Czech-Mex', offering a strange blend of anything spicy, from anywhere south of the Czech Republic. A vast salad menu is the perfect set up for a wide range of sizzling fajitas, quesidillas, burritos, tacos and enchilladas. These are all brought to life with one of the best attempts at real salsa the city has to offer. As well as the Czech-Mex mixing and matching of styles, a Spanish influence has found its way onto the menu as the place offers chop-licking tapas, Andulusian mushrooms and gazpacho. The tequila menu is the biggest in the country with everything from Pepe Lopez to Tenoch. The eclectic décor ranges from Mexican sombreros on the walls and Guatemalan carpets on the floor to Brazilian coffee bean bags hugging the ceilings.

Barracuda Cafe

Tex-Mex off the tourist trail
Krymska 2
Prague 10100
Czech Republic
+420 2 7174 0599
http://www.barracuda-cafe.cz/
This romantic, candlelit cellar space hides behind a simple almost drab façade on a non-descript street outside the main center. Once inside, however, the brightly painted walls and ornate decorations create a pleasant environment for sampling Tex-Mex treats with a Czech twist. The place feels more like a restaurant than a café and its reasonably-priced menu ranges from standard Tex-Mex fare of spicy soups and salads to burritos (chicken, beef or vegetarian) to Pollo (chicken). Mexican beers and alcohol are also served. Frequented by locals which range from hip young professionals to older business types to couples of all ages, this is a well-kept secret off the normal tourist trail. Service is prompt and friendly and the staff speaks English.

Popular with expats and tourists, Buffalo Bill's serves up an Am-Mex menu, with a theme of the American West, with cowboy outfits lining the walls. Dig into well-prepared steaks and ribs, or one of the treats of the American Southwest, such as burritos or tacos. Expect live country and western music in the evenings. Well-poured Czech brews go nicely with the cuisine. Open till midnight, the restaurant staff is decked out in cowboy garb. Buffalo Bill would be proud!

Cantina

Spicy Tex-Mex favorites
Újezd 38
Prague 15000
Czech Republic
+420 (0)2 5731 7173
This is a step south of the border: Prague style. Mariachi music and Latino classics echo through the reasonably priced, bright yellow space which caters to a trendy crowd of young professionals and expats craving a spicy alternative to blander Czech cuisine. Usually crowded, the combination of Tex-Mex favorites and a jovial atmosphere is a proven winner. Expect a reasonably priced menu of standard Tex-Mex fare: nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and burritos served with salsa and guacamole. Margaritas and Mexican beers are also on offer. Brazilian coffee bean sacks cover the ceiling while neon Mexican beer signs, neon cacti, sombreros and pictures of Mexican rodeo complement the numerous Aztec figures dotted around the place.

Casa Blu

Happy Hacienda
Kozi 5
Prague 11000
Czech Republic
+420 2 2481 8270
http://www.lacasablu.cz/
Extremely popular with seemingly everyone under 40, this pub-cum-cantina succeeds both as a lively place to drink and socialize and as a relatively inexpensive place to eat some simply prepared south-of-the-border food. Vegetarian versions are also offered. Décor is festive Latino kitsch, and a gallery in the rear features art from local artists. Prague's small Latin community has made this their home away from home so if you're in the mood to practise or pick up some Spanish, this is the spot. Those still inside after the door closes at midnight can usually stay at least another hour or two.

Jo's Bar and Garage

Expat and backpacker's favorite
Malostranské námestí 7
Prague 11800
Czech Republic
+420 2 2423 3137
This place offers one of the largest Tex-Mex menus with tasty burritos. Wash down whatever you're eating with a draft beer. Heineken is on offer if you get tired of the Czech brew. The small downstairs dance bar is usually full of native English speakers and those wishing to meet them. Get a specially designed Jo's tattoo and you'll never have to pay for another dinner here for the rest of your life. Ask for details.

Svet

Five nationalities in one
Jecná 5
Prague 12000
Czech Republic
+420 (0)2 2492 0509
Don't let the ambiguous location discourage you from this restaurant. Turn those few extra corners and you will discover its charming patio and entrance. One look at the menu will immediately set this restauarant apart from others in the city. Dishes representing cuisine from France, Italy, Norway, Ireland and Mexico sprinkle the page. Although each nationality is only allocated a few dishes, the overall choice is large and obviously diverse. The décor is a skillful blend of furnishings characteristic of each of the 5 regions.
