Located in a 14th-century building, this excellent vegetarian restaurant stays packed from all day. The cafeteria-style set up features a huge salad bar, soups and a selection of main courses which change daily. Popular with students, grandmas, business people and everyone in between, the restaurant also serves a wide range of fruit juices and teas. A large bakery flanks the main restaurant. Perfect for the quick snack or long drawn out afternoon meal, it is only a short walk from both Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square.

http://www.govinda.cz/ The Hare Krishnas who run this bright and lofty restaurant whip up some of the best vegetarian food around at prices that can't be beaten. If the heaping first portions aren't enough, second are free! Students get a special discount. All the food is organically grown on the Krishna farm outside Prague and revolve around a well-seasoned and creatively prepared potato-rice-lentil core. Visit the downstairs sweetshop for homemade goodies. The restaurant is packed at lunchtime and an hour or so before closing, so the middle of the afternoon is the best time to come.

The smoky front room is no place to ponder deep thoughts over a laptop, as recorded music and voices compete to outshout each other. For a more peaceful scene, head to the club room at the back. Coffees are quite affordable and there's a good selection of drinks and liqueurs, also at attractive prices. The food consists mainly of pasta and salads at prices to suit the students who frequent the place.

http://www.universalrestaurant.cz Once upon a time, this was one of the hottest spots in town to eat, and everything from the wait to the service reflected that. These days, its less crowded but still popular for its affordable hybrid fare. Substantial salads with sautéed chicken and sesame combination is especially good. Alternatively, try the chicken in coconut milk. Vegetarian dishes are also recommended. The service has improved considerably but still sometimes comes up short.
