16 North 17th St
Richmond, VA 23219
United States
+1 804 649 2822

This Cuban-themed restaurant somehow achieves both a lively and romantic atmosphere. At brunch, you can watch the Farmers Market as you dine on the outdoor deck. If you want a spot outside, be sure to make a reservation. The menu is seafood heavy, but those who do not enjoy things fishy will love the shredded pork over rice with plantains. It is one of the least expensive and most delicious items offered. Havana has one of the largest drink selections in the city, including homemade margaritas.

The menu includes authentic Cuban roast pork (as an entree or on a sandwich) and three kinds of paella. This is also the only place in Richmond that has Cuban coffee. A small Cuban market is contained in the restaurant.

Ma-Musu's West African Cuisine

A taste of Liberia
200 E Main St
Richmond, VA 23219

The first president of Liberia was from nearby Petersburg, Virginia and this restaurant honors him and the delicious food of his nation. A mural illustrating Liberian history adorns one wall and African sculptures and other art decorate the airy dining room. The food is spicy and very good. It combines foods considered traditional in Virginia collard greens, cornbread and black eyed peas with West African spices, rice and finely ground or chopped meats. The Traditional is the menu's most authentic entree, combining peas, corn and rice with diced chicken. This extremely hot dish goes perfectly with sweet African wine or African beer.

Visiting here is like eating comfort food on a "Happy Days" set. The colorful tile counter is a very comfortable place to dine alone; customers and employees are friendly and conversational. River City is a great place to go for breakfast before visiting the Edgar Allen Poe Museum or St. John's Church, both in nearby Church Hill. Breakfast is crowded on weekends, so be prepared to wait for a table but know that it will be well worth your time. Traditional southern biscuits and gravy are the best in the city.

Village Cafe

Second home to local artists
1001 West Grace St
Richmond, VA 23220
United States
+1 804 353 8204
The Village has been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Best-selling novelist and Richmond native, Tom Robbins, used to frequent the joint. The servers are notoriously rude, but that is part of the charm. Their behavior is not so offensive as to prevent guests from having a positive experience. One warning specify a glass or a pitcher for beverages or you will get a pitcher. This is a Village trademark. The food is quite tasty and a good selection of beer and mixed drinks is available. Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Walnuts and Baked Brie with Apples are favorites.
