This bright, airy restaurant is family-oriented and is a great place to broaden your child's taste buds. There is something to catch their eye at every turn—shelves of imported foods in brightly colored packages or vibrant wall decorations. The staff is very friendly. The menu includes authentic Cuban roast pork (as an entree or on a sandwich) and three kinds of paella. This is also the only place in Richmond that has Cuban coffee. A small Cuban market is contained in the restaurant.

Phil's has been serving drinks and good food since the 1930s. Not too far from Windsor Farms, Richmond's most elegant neighborhood, this restaurant is a great place to stop for drinks while shopping or touring museums. It is also a fun place to unwind after work. Try a vodka limeade, Phil's signature drink. Burgers and sandwiches are served with crunchy onion rings or crispy, light fries. You will feel very comfortable eating or drinking in this Richmond landmark.

River City Diner

Riverside retro
1712 East Main St
Richmond, VA 23219
United States

Visiting here is like eating comfort food on a "Happy Days" set. The colorful tile counter is a very comfortable place to dine alone; customers and employees are friendly and conversational. River City is a great place to go for breakfast before visiting the Edgar Allen Poe Museum or St. John's Church, both in nearby Church Hill. Breakfast is crowded on weekends, so be prepared to wait for a table but know that it will be well worth your time. Traditional southern biscuits and gravy are the best in the city.

Village Cafe

Second home to local artists
1001 West Grace St
Richmond, VA 23220
United States
+1 804 353 8204
The Village has been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Best-selling novelist and Richmond native, Tom Robbins, used to frequent the joint. The servers are notoriously rude, but that is part of the charm. Their behavior is not so offensive as to prevent guests from having a positive experience. One warning specify a glass or a pitcher for beverages or you will get a pitcher. This is a Village trademark. The food is quite tasty and a good selection of beer and mixed drinks is available. Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Walnuts and Baked Brie with Apples are favorites.
