Via delle Quattro Fontane Rome, Rome 00187 |
These four baroque fountains, situated at each of the four corners of the crossroads of Via delle Quattro Fontane, Via del Quirinale and Via XX Settembre, depict the Tiber, recognisable by the presence of the Wolf; the Arno: the two male figures; and Diana and Juno: the females. The statues were erected at the end of the 16th century under Pope Sisto V during a period of reconstruction and embellishment of the city. Review © 2009, Wcities |
