Piazzale delle Nazioni Unite Rome, Rome 00144 |
The Piazzale delle Nazioni Unite lies in the modern district of EUR on Via Cristoforo Colombo. The elliptical piazza is made up of two semi-circular exedras with a portico of columns. Two large round fountains stand in the exedras surrounded by large, symmetrical buildings from the 1940s whose shapes accentuate the form of the square. The design of the square and buildings was based on the Trajan markets in ancient Rome. Review © 2009, Wcities |
