True, quality Eritrean cuisine
43 Viale Ippocrate
Rome, Rome 00161
+39 6 4424 2583
This Eritrean restaurant is one of the first African restaurants to have opened in Rome. It offers excellent-quality food, and service is efficient and friendly. If your group is at least four strong, you can ask for one of the traditional tables; you sit on armchairs around a low wicker table on which a large tray is placed, on which all dishes are served. In summer, a pleasant open-air space is available. Food is eaten from the central tray using your hands and the traditional soft bread named ingera. The main dishes are Zighinì, Lamb or Beef in a Spicy Sauce, Zil Zil Tibsi, Veal cooked at the table on a charcoal-burning terra cotta stove, and Kitfo, minced beef flavoured with butter and chili pepper, served raw or lightly cooked. The vegetable specialities include Tum-tumo, Red Lentil Soup and Scirò, Chickpea Purée. Try the unusual dessert thnìa based on sesame seed. Meals are accompanied by mies, the traditional mead-type wine.
