Sora Margherita is small, hard to find, and has some of the best food in Rome. On the hand-written menu, you'll find such Jewish-influenced culinary delights as Carciofi alla Giudia (deep-fried artichokes), home-made pastas, and gnocchi to die for. In order to eat there, you must become a member of the Associazione Culturale, which you can do by filling out a form at the restaurant itself. If you're interested in doing as the Romans do, try the dishes that are fixed for the various days of the week, such as anchovies with endives on Mondays, Rome-style tripe on Wednesdays, gnocchi on Thursdays, and chickpea purée on Friday. Lovely home-made flan. Good Velletri wine by the jug. Open only at lunchtime, except Saturday night. Review © 2009, Wcities |
