Buca di Beppo

Family-style Italian Cuisine Near Downtown
1249 Howe Ave
Sacramento, CA 95825
United States
+1 916 922 6673
http://www.bucadibeppo.com
The atmosphere is warm and friendly, even fun. For an entree, the Ravioli al Pomodoro filled with mild cheese and tomato sauce is sure to please. Choose from several huge Neapolitan-style pizzas, each two feet long and one foot wide. The crusts are thin, crisp and wonderfully smoky tasting. It also offers a selection of huge salads, and an amazing selection of desserts like lemon cream puffs, special Buca bread pudding and a very unusual chocolate cannoli. Portions are large and can be shared.

You may wait 20 minutes at lunch for one of the Rueben or Creole sandwiches, but do not give up; the wait is worth it. Located in the trendy Pavilions Center on Fair Oaks, this eatery combines the freshest meats, vegetables and other produce into some of the best sandwiches around. The Creole, combining turkey, zesty Creole mayonnaise, cabbage, lettuce and tomato is a favorite of the large and noisy noon-hour crowd. The wine selection is so extensive that experts are available to help you select a wine.

Eastern Empire

Blend of Chinese & Polynesian
460 Howe Ave
Sacramento, CA 95825
United States
+1 916 646 1698
The big Buddha statue and gurgling fish fountain appeal to kids, but its blend of traditional Chinese and Polynesian dishes is the calling card. A favorite is the Seafood Bird Nest, a combination of prawns, calamari, scallops and mixed vegetables assembled in the shape of a bird's nest. The Cashew Chicken is another star on the menu. An interesting twist on its tradition is the "Empress Fitness" menu featuring entrees prepared without cornstarch. The restaurant also has a full bar with lots of variations of pina coladas and daiquiris.

This dining spot is decorated with bright colors. Start with the salad rolls, which are tiny tubular rice-paper rolls stuffed with the prawns' tiny cousins, baby shrimp, along with mint and fresh bean sprouts. A table of four will be made happy by an order of lemon grass soup, a truly gigantic bowl with lemon grass being the distinctive tone in an orchestra of flavors including chicken and mushroom.

Belly Dancing & Fluffy Pillows
1833 Fulton Ave
Sacramento, CA 95825

The atmosphere is carefree and the decor is traditional Moroccan. Diners are seated on big fluffy pillows, on the floor, around low tables. The five-course meals include tea and a Moroccan pastry. Waiters, dressed in traditional Moroccan attire, serve each course in a ceremonial manner. Pastilla, a crispy sugar-dusted pastry filled with aromatic ground meats and egg is one of many entrees. On Friday and Saturday nights, during dinner, guests are entertained by belly dancers.

This eatery has been voted the Best Ribs and Barbecue in Sacramento by readers of Sacramento Magazine and the Sacramento News and Review. Its oak wood fires, slow-smoked cooking techniques and special blends of sauces convey a tangy flavor to the ribs, brisket and burgers. Do not look for frilly sides here; traditional beans, Texas toast, potato salad and home-style fries are the only side dishes available.

The Kitchen

One-of-a-kind fine-dining
2225 Hurley Way
#101
Sacramento, CA 95825
United States

On weekend evenings, the Demonstration Dinners are five-course meals that last four hours. Throughout the dinner, you will marvel at the chefs working in full view of the dining room in a open kitchen. The menu changes from day to day, but diners can always be sure of the freshest of ingredients and innovative entrees. The prix-fixe dinners are rather expensive compared to most Sacramento restaurants, but the wines are reasonably priced. Reservations are emphatically recommended; all seats can be booked months in advance.
