Cantina Del Rio

Antique Interior, Live Music
106 J Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
United States
+1 916 443 6376
http://www.cantinadelrio.com/
The high ceilings rest on walls of ancient bricks, and nestled up among the cinnamon-hued rafters are two balconies surrounded by wrought iron railings. There is a long, cozy bar and wide windows looking out on the plank sidewalk. Lunch and dinner feature traditional Mexican cuisine with a few distinctive entrees not usually found north of the border. Through a graceful brick arch, Mexican rock bands play on a stage in front of a roomy wooden dance floor.

Creative interpretations of Mexican cuisine
2730 J St
Sacramento, CA 95816
United States

The dining room is decorated in southwestern colors and with authentic Mexican artifacts. The chef has traveled to and spent a great deal of time in kitchens in Oaxaca and Yucatan, as well as Central America and it shows in the interesting entrees. The enchiladas with mole negro sauce, a mixture of peanuts and chocolate, are boisterous celebrations of Mexican cuisine. All ingredients are prepared fresh daily and selected with care. The full service bar has more than 30 single malt scotches, and 70 brands of tequila.

Elephant Bar Restaurant

Outdoor dining
6063 Sunrise Mall
Sacramento, CA 95610
United States
+1 916 961 3628
http://www.elephantbar.com/
The decor here is a jungle theme with plenty of booths and patio tables for outdoor dining. The menu is the same for both lunch and dinner. You can choose from a variety of salads, appetizers, burgers, burritos, specialty entrees and desserts. The burritos are large and tasty and the Caribbean Pot Roast is flavorful and filling. The house specialty is Mud Pie, a dessert that is large enough for two people to share. Because reservations are not accepted, the wait for a table may be very long.

Ernesto's

Authentic Mexican cuisine

Sacramento, CA 95814

Enjoy al fresco dining under the tall trees in a bustling Midtown neighborhood, or indoors, where the decor is cheerfully tropical with mariachi music in the background. The cuisine is Mexican with a definite flair for healthy and interesting interpretations of traditional fare: burritos, carnitas and more. You will not find greasy tortillas filled with lard-laden refried beans at this popular spot. This is a vegetarian-friendly place. Beer and Margaritas are available.

This family owned restaurant serves traditional Tex-Mex cuisine. Based on long-held family recipes, using only fresh ingredients, the quality of the food belies the fast-food appearance of the decor. Mexican food aficionados will find an amazingly varied menu. Many traditional favorites like tostados, burritos, chalupas, and chimichangas are on the menu. The Camarones Rancheros, shrimp sauteed in butter, wine, garlic, shallots, roasted tomatoes, green onions, mushrooms and fresh basil is very tasty. Servings are generous and the entrees are inexpensive.

Taqueria Davis

Real Mexican food
505 L St
Sacramento, CA 95616
United States
+1 530 758 8453
For a taste of authentic Mexican cookery, this, the oldest taqueria (Mexican restaurant) in Davis is the place to go. The menu consists of typical tacos, burritos and tortas, with some rather exotic ingredient choices including cabeza (beef brains). The appetizers include an interesting shrimp cocktail, the sauce of which has a hot peppery tang. The breakfast menu is more extensive than offered in most Mexican taquerias and includes eggs any way you want them, a variety of meats, rice, beans and tortillas.

Tower Cafe

An eclectic crowd, night shift and early shift workers come for the breakfasts. Try the Huevos Rancheros or a plain eggs-and-toast breakfast; the portions are generous. A variety of entrees is featured for lunch and dinner, ranging from seafood such as grilled swordfish (plump and flavorful) to spicy Mexican carnitas. For dessert, the bakery provides exceptional cookies, mouth-watering cakes, and various pastries. During lunch, the patio is usually crowded. If you want to sit outside (particularly on a nice day), expect a wait.

Xochimilco

Don't say it, just enjoy
1901 El Camino Ave
Sacramento, CA 95815
United States
+1 916 923 1411
The name is pronounced so-chee-mill-co which is the floating gardens in Mexico City. This eatery serves tasty traditional Mexican dishes in a friendly family atmosphere. For a tasty break from enchiladas and fajitas, try the flaky fish tacos, zesty chili verde or shrimp ranchero. Burgers and fries are also offered for the less adventurous. The building and decor are nothing special, but the place has developed a loyal clientele of very satisfied diners.
