Albatros

Delicious seafood
Obispo Jarrín, 10
Salamanca 37001
Spain
+34 923 26 9387
This seafood restaurant is decorated throughout in oak and the three dining rooms hold 300, 150 and 80 people respectively. They operate their own fresh seafood reserve so you can be sure that your lobster, crabs, prawns, crayfish and clams are first-class specimens. They also serve fresh fish caught in the Bay of Biscay. One of the house specialties is the "Albatros Hake" (delicate white fish served on a bed of tomatoes and covered with an exquisite bechamel sauce). If you prefer meat, try some of the locally-cured hams or the restaurant's home-produced pork cuts. The homemade pine nut pudding is unusual. There's an area reserved for non-smokers.

Mares Van Dyck

Quality seafood and wine
Van Dyck, 30
Salamanca 37005
Spain
Everyone in Salamanca knows this restaurant, which serves all kinds of seafood dishes from around Spain, from Galicia in the north to Andalusia in the south. You can try some delicious octopus, for example, cooked with garlic or in the Galician style (steamed and sprinkled with paprika and olive oil). Any of their various mussel dishes is another good option as well: steamed, with alioli (garlic and olive oil mayonnaise), stuffed, with celery or with traditional vinagrette. Then there are the chopitos (baby octopus), squid, rabas (strips of cuttlefish), etc. Whether you order these by the ración (large-sized tapas) or as a main course, you will definitely like them. As for the wine list, they have a good selection of Albariño and Ribeiro wines from Galicia. They also stock some local wines from the area, including a few from Salamanca province. The restaurant does not take reservations on weekends.

Surtidor

Inexpensive seafood restaurant
Plaza de Poeta Iglesias, 10
Salamanca 37001
Spain
You can also enjoy good seafood and fish in a town found hundreds of kilometers from the coast. At this seafood restaurant, decorated with ceramic tiles from Talavera, you can order either grilled or boiled spider crabs, spiny lobsters, goose barnacles, prawns or velvet swincrabs, for example. Prices in this downtown restaurant are generally affordable. Customers often order mariscadas (grilled seafood platter) for two people, costing less than 3000 ptas. You can also savour quality Galician wines, such as an Albariño or a Ribeiro.
