Perfect for a short stay |
Dr. M. Laireiter Straße 9 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 850020 http://www.airporthotel.at |
For some obscure reason airport hotels seem to have a rather bad reputation. However I find that most of them actually offer quite exclusive services to the travellers that seek refuge in their midst. One of these is the "Airporthotel Salzburg". It is a first class hotel that has been built into a house that resembles an old fashioned sort of farmhouse. Inside however it reveals itself as a top modern hotel with beautiful rooms, a bar, a restaurant and a few conference rooms. An exquisite service by the staff secures the fact that this hotel is playing in the top league. Be your stay short or long, you're well looked after here! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Student flats to rent for the holidays |
Glockengasse 4b Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 1 512 7493 http://www.allyouneedhotels.at... |
The AllYouNeed Hotel serves as student halls of residence during term time and, from July until the end of the summer, it is a hotel for tourists. It works out well that in the period when most tourists visit Salzburg, the students are away at home or travelling, leaving their halls free for visitors. The location is ideal, at the upper end of Linzergasse in a small quiet sidestreet. The building itself has only been around a few years and with en suite facilities and a telephone in all rooms, it offers a comfortable place to stay at very reasonable prices. Note: only open between July and September. Review © 2007, Wcities |

High class and central |
Rudolfskai 28 / Judengasse 15 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 8485710 http://www.austria-trend.at/ass |
This luxury hotel of the best sort sets itself out from the rest by the fact that it is located right in the Old Town. Situated on the Rudolskai by River Salzach, it is about as close as you can get to all the highlights of Mozart's City. There's a great view over the Kapuzinerberg, River Salzach and the Giselakai on the one side, and the ambience of the Waag Square and the Judengasse on the other side. Class paired with the flair of Salzburg's Old Town is a fusion close to perfection. The rooms are luxurious with plenty of wooden floorboards and period furniture. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kaigasse 33 Salzburg A - 5010 Austria +43 662 8424450 http://www.kasererbraeu.at |
Hotel Kasererbräu is situated in a 650 year-old listed building in the Old Town. Although you'll find it in the middle of the pedestrian zone, access by car is still possible. The convivial hotel is stylish and inviting; the rooms are heavily accented by antique furniture although retain a modern feel. There are some games rooms, rather reminiscent of those of a country house or even a castle. This hotel would be well suited to those interested in history and culture. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wolf Dietrich Straße 7 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 871275 http://www.salzburg-hotel.at/ |
This hotel inherited its name from one of Salzburg's best-known archbishops. Lovingly decorated and pleasantly furnished, this is a good, mid-priced choice in the centre of town. The hotel restaurant has received many accolades and serves high-quality Austrian fare. Not only that, but the hotel also won a "Best for Ladies" award in acknowledgement of its services to female travellers. In 2005 a new and modern spa area was opened. A wealth of information about the city is available from the knowledgeable, helpful staff. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Peaceful city hotel |
Blumensteinstraße 8 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 640097 http://www.arenberg-salzburg.at/ |
Tucked away in a side street, the Blumensteinstraße, Hotel Arenberg is an exclusive four-star hotel in an extremely quiet but central location. It offers well-equipped and nicely decorated rooms, most with their own balconies and a grandiose view over the mountain panorama. The hotel is situated at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg and all the major sights and attractions of the Old Town can be reached on foot in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. There is a beautiful garden and a comfortable leisure room; great for settling down with a good book if the weather isn't up to much. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If it comes to finding a high class hotel near the main train station of Salzburg, the "Bayrische Hof" is definitely the one. Just a two minutes walk separates the visitor from the main transport centre of the city from where he can catch almost every train or bus possible. Nevertheless the hotel is not too far away from the city centre itself, which can be reached by walking along the picturesque Salzach for about 15 minutes. The rooms are well equipped and look very friendly and welcoming, which also applies to the building itself, that is painted in a friendly and pleasant yellow. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The ultimate conference and seminar hotel |
Ernst Grain Straße 14 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 659010 http://www.virgil.at |
Bildungshaus St. Virgil functions, for the most part, as a business hotel for conferences and seminars, although it does accommodate leisure travellers. The building was the result of extensive planning by a contemporary architect, who expertly combined conference space, a restaurant and comfortable accommodation. There are more rooms in a nearby building, designed in a more rustic style. All rooms have en suite facilities and are decorated in light shades. The building itself is flooded with light thanks to the ample use of glass, which creates a sense of well being once inside. Room prices vary quite greatly from room to room and depend on any conferences taking place at the time. It is wise to phone and enquire; the pleasant staff are well informed and glad to help. Staying centrally |
Elisabethstraße 45a Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 454265-0 http://www.brunauerzentrum.at |
Hotel Brunauer Zentrum is situated in Elisabethstraße, a small road that runs parallel to Salzburg's main train station, where most public transport lines meet. Although the building might not be very appealing, the hotel has a lovely garden; the management are well informed about the city and its tourism and the rooms are often booked for meetings and seminars. This doesn't mean it isn't suitable for leisure guests though; the rooms are light and spacious and practically arranged, dominated by light colours and elements of warm red. This hotel has a special Health Corner with a sauna, solarium and fitness room. Furthermore guests can try their hand at the typical Austrian Kegeln, a sport similar to bowling. Am Messezentrum 2 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 4355460 http://www.tiscover.at/cd-hotel |
Because of its proximity to Salzburg's Reed Exhibition Centre, this hotel is especially popular with exhibition-goers. The CD Hotel is, first and foremost, a business hotel and maintains modern rooms, all with en suite facilities. It is also a good spot for tourists, as the Old Town is only 20 minutes away by bus. It is worth noting that the room prices here are static the whole year round (even during festival time); in addition one child under the age of 18 is able to sleep in the parents' room free of charge. The restaurant is particularly popular with business travellers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

You can also get to centre of town by bus but it's a 15-minute walk to the next bus stop. Alpenstraße 6 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 20600 http://www.castellani-parkhote... |
This hotel is actually an old manor house, arguably a palace. Over a hundred exclusive, tastefully designed rooms provide guests with the most modern of comforts. Furthermore the rooms have been refurbished lately. The hotel owns its own famous, very well reputed restaurant and although it lies right next to a park, this hotel is only ten minutes away from the city-centre. There's also another unusual touch: this hotel has its own baroque chapel, which can be booked for weddings and christenings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something in the region of 3,500 cultural events take place in Salzburg every year. The idea of opening a hotel to cater to those tourists who visit Salzburg for cultural events seemed a logical one. The owners of the Cordial Theatre Hotel were the first to dream up and execute this idea. The hotel is not too far from the city centre and the staple venues for cultural events. The friendly staff provide a wealth of information on what is on. All rooms are arranged as suites, with en suite facilities and a kitchenette. This is the largest of Salzburg's five-star options, and is situated between Mirabellplatz and the main station in the centre of town. The interior decor exudes panache and elegance, while the staff ensure a smooth reception and seem to anticipate the guests' every wish. The presidential suite is huge (120m2), although the other rooms are also very generous. The in-house restaurant, the Rainerstube, is a cosy establishment specializing in the finest Austrian cuisine. The "Doktorschlössl" (Doctor's Palace) is an interesting little hotel in the quiet district of Glas, not too far off from the city centre. The bus services run hear on a regular basis and even a taxi would not cost too much for that short distance. Mobility is not a problem here. The friendly ***-Superior hotel offers every commodity a tourist can wish for. Especially the quiet surroundings persuade guests to come here regularly. If you arrive in Salzburg by car from the north you can't really miss the Ganslhof. It is situated in the Vogelweiderstraße, which runs along behind the main train station of Salzburg, great for those travelling by car and train. This street, being one of Salzburg's main outlet roads, can be rather noisy at times. At night the traffic eases considerably, so guests can sleep in peace. The city centre can be reached comfortably on foot in about 20 minutes and a public bus will scoot you off to town in about half the time. The value for money is good and dedicated staff make sure that your stay is a pleasant one. All in all, a nice, comfy hotel in a good, semi-central position! Review © 2007, Wcities |

The rather small Hotel Gastein is a country-style hotel, set on the banks of River Salzach. This hotel offers exclusive accommodation far removed from the regular tourist haunts in and around Salzburg, yet is not too far into the centre of town. The building looks like a typical old style Salzburg country house; plants grow all over the facade and the garden making it look even more like home. Restaurant Kendl is well known in Salzburg thanks to its exquisite Austrian cuisine. That said, the hotel in the same building is certainly not in the shadow because of it. All rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped to three star standards. The service is professional and friendly with the staff always willing to lend a hand. The 500 years old building is located on the outskirts of Salzburg. This provides a great view of the countryside. Coach groups seem to be particularly fond of this place. Probably because buses into the city are regular and what this place lacks in convenience it makes up for in calm and beauty. Review © 2007, Wcities |

On northern edge of Salzburg with a great restaurant |
Itzlinger Hauptstraße 91 Salzburg A - 5020 Austria +43 662 451728 http://www.plainbruecke.at |
Hotel Plainbrücke lies on Salzburg's northern city limits, where the fields of the neighbouring region of Bergheim meet the city. It is part of the citizens of Salzburg's vocabulary mainly due to its excellent restaurant. The rooms are comfortable and decorated in a rustic style; all have en suite facilities. One highlight is their special Romantic Room with its four-poster bed. By public transport, it really isn't that far into the city centre from here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Himmelreich 6 Salzburg A-5071 Austria +43 662 85 6800-0 http://www.hotelsalzburg.at |
Hotel Himmelreich (translated: heaven) is situated in the district of the same name on the city limits; it is relatively close to the city centre (15 minutes' drive), but also offers the advantages of a more rural region - lots of green space and a very quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The hotel is situated close to Salzburg airport, but the noise is not really noticeable. The hotel has been completely refurbished recently and the spacious rooms are equipped to a high standard and the adjoining restaurant enjoys an excellent reputation among locals. Guests can also attend a very near fitness center at a special rate. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The small, four-star Stadler Hotel is somewhat removed from the usual tourist circuit and situated in a quiet area. You can still get to the Old Town in about 15 minutes by bus. The rooms are modern and comfortable and the family-run business takes good care of its guests; half and full-day sightseeing tours or theatre tickets will be booked for you upon request. Ganshof Tavern is about a 200m stumble down the road and it serves simple and traditional Austrian meals. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The entirely renovated hotel boasts comfortable, elegant rooms designed with plenty of attention to detail. This hotel also offers one of the most beautiful roof-decks in Salzburg. The hotel restaurant is said to be one of Salzburg's finest and is almost an institution in itself in the city. Note that it does some very good specials for lunch and dinner. Hotel Stein is situated right next to the Staatsbrücke, the main bridge over the Salzach. If you walk out the door you can see the cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which can be reached in less than 5 minutes. This hotel has been completely refurbished and has become a design-hotel. The rooms are very appealing and they outdo ordinary furbished hotel rooms by far. Nevertheless the building still has the aura of this historic place. On the roof, you'll find Dachterrassencafe Stein with a stunning panoramic view over the Old Town. Review © 2007, Wcities |

From an architectural viewpoint Hotel Lasserhof is certainly one of the most interesting hotels Salzburg has to offer. The building dates from the era of Art Nouveau and was restored bit by bit over the last few years. Now it once again stands proud in all its beauty. The impression created by the exterior is also mirrored inside - a hotel with exquisite rooms and service! The "Guest House Herbert" is a small privately run organisation. If the owner is really called Herbert has to be verified on location, but that's not really important anyway. Fact is, that this little and fairly inexpensive hotel is situated in one of the nicest areas any tourist could wish for! The Nonntaler Hauptstraße winds itself along, hugging the bottom end of the so called Fortress Mountain. This road is not frequently used by cars and therefore very quiet and peaceful. It's merely a 5 minutes walk to the town centre and the fortress itself can be reached in no time via a much nicer back way as well. The rooms have been beautifully equipped by old Herbert, everything a normal tourist needs has been supplied. Enjoy the flair of Herbert's friendly place in the nicest area of Salzburg! The hotel, in one of Schwarzstraße's side streets, is about a ten-minute walk from Salzburg's Old Town and fulfils just about every wish guests looking for exquisite service and luxury could fathom. The interior simply throbs with style. The lobby sports amazingly comfortable, beautiful chairs and the reception rather resembles one you might find on a luxury steamboat. Dinner in the small restaurant is in harmony with the Sheraton's reputation of excellence. Right behind the hotel, a vast park stretches out to the famous Mirabell Palace. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A homely hotel in Nonntal |
Nonntaler Hauptstraße 35 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 843728 http://www.struber.at |
Hotel Struber is situated in Nonntal, certainly one of the most beautiful districts Salzburg has to offer. The hotel is not far from the city centre, but also not in the thick of things. The rooms are furnished in a traditional style, are very spacious and comfortable. Because there are only a total of 14 rooms, reserving is recommended and it is worth asking for a room with a balcony and a view of the Hohensalzburg Fort. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Many rooms in several buildings |
Linzer Bundesstraße 52a, 54 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 640630 http://www.turnerwirt.at |
Hotel Turnerwirt is all about elegance. The rooms are dispersed between several buildings, the main house, the villa, the Atrium Turnerwirt with its refurbished rooms and the lodge. Some of the rooms have more than two beds, which makes this an attractive choice for families. There's a very good restaurant and with its comfortable and well-fitted rooms, it is perfect for groups. Luxury hotel on the outskirts of Salzburg |
Gaisberg 11 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 641510 http://www.kobenzl.at/ |
This luxurious hotel sits on the Gaisberg Autostrasse, half way up to the top of the Gaisberg. Situated on the outskirts of the city at a considerable height, it offers an outstanding view over Salzburg. Guests are treated to all sorts of luxuries and the Staff consider personalised service to be of great importance. There's a health area with a swimming pool, a massage service, sauna and a solarium to help you relax. The rooms are lavishly furnished and earn every single one of their allotted five stars. The hotel runs its own restaurant with outstanding food and a very well-stocked wine cellar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Respected hotel and restaurant |
Vogelweiderstraße 93 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 871223 http://www.vogelweiderhof.at/ |
The Vogelweiderhof is situated on the street of the same name, which is one of the main arterial roads in Salzburg. Although it can sometimes be a bit noisy, at night this street does seem to sleep. The rooms are fantastic and the décor features warm colours. All the rooms have en suite facilities and yet the upper price limit is not so high, which is one of the main attractions of the hotel. People who love their food can really find good meals in the hotel's own restaurant. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great little place |
Rochusgasse 15 Salzburg A - 5020 Austria +43 662 820100 http://www.wastlwirt.com |
Wastlwirt is just as charming as the name sounds. This small but well-equipped establishment is situated very near Stiegl brewery, although its fabulous restaurant and inexpensive rooms make it popular with a more varied clientele. Known for its friendly, family-like atmosphere and attentive service, Wastlwirt is a good, relatively undiscovered little place and only a 20-minute walk from the city centre. A tip for insiders! A grand view |
Gaisberg 16 Salzburg 5026 Austria +43 662 641067 http://www.zistelalm.at |
This is one of the hotels that sit on the Gaisberg mount. Not surprisingly this is outside the city centre but here guests can lap up the calm and the fresh mountain air. As far as the rooms and the service are concerned, this hotel scores high points and adheres to all things traditional in Austrian hospitality. The restaurant is well known for good traditional cuisine and does not linger behind the standard of the hotel itself. Walking, cycling and long drives are what this area is known for. The Gaisberg Panorama Walk leaves from just outside the hotel. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional through and through |
St. Julien Straße 21-23 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 889030 http://www.zumhirschen.at |
Like many other hotels in Salzburg, Hotel Zum Hirschen reveres all things traditional. The rooms all feature classic Austrian furniture and traditional designs; the main theme is one of luxury, and all the rooms feature all mod cons. A hearty breakfast and the use of the roof terrace sauna facilities (Finnish sauna, herb sauna and steam bath) come included in the price of a room. This terrace has a fabulous view over Festung Hohensalzburg. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Plenty of history and superb food |
Goldgasse 10 Salzburg A - 5020 Austria +43 662 845622 http://www.ente.at |
Hotel zur goldenen Ente (literally, Hotel of the Golden Duck) is certainly a bit of an insider's tip among the hotels in Salzburg. Even Goldgasse, the road in which the hotel lies, is worth a visit and it is fascinating to stay in a 500 year-old building. For a hotel of its class, it is well furnished and maintained as it has been refurbished recently. The rooms all have en suite facilities and the hotel has its own restaurant, Gasthaus zur goldenen Ente, which comes highly recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |
