By far and away Salzburg's best-known theatre, the Landestheater stages elaborate productions of classic works as well as more contemporary pieces. Annual productions range from Opera to Ballet, musical theatre and productions for young people. With high stucco ceilings, plush red carpets, winding staircases, stunning boxes and enormous chandeliers, the interior is exactly what one would expect from such a highly-renowned establishment. The theatre also serves as one of the venues for the Salzburg Festspiele. Tickets cost from EUR 8 to EUR 50 depending on the production. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Entertainment at its best |
Anton Neumayr-Platz 2 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 843448 http://www.szene-salzburg.net |
Everything began in postwar times when a cinemascope-cinema was established in this building with 600 seats. A bizarre mixture of cinema, concerts and sporting events like boxing took place in the modest building in the heart of the city until 1985. Then the Szene-Festival, a sort of alternative to the Salzburg Festival, started with events claiming to change to avantgarde and experiment in art, music, theatre, concerts, cabaret and above all dance. Events have taken place throughout the year here since 1993. The mixture of events offers a lot of opportunities to be entertained in the true sense of the word and to get an overview of different contemporary areas of art. Review © 2007, Wcities |
