By far and away Salzburg's best-known theatre, the Landestheater stages elaborate productions of classic works as well as more contemporary pieces. Annual productions range from Opera to Ballet, musical theatre and productions for young people. With high stucco ceilings, plush red carpets, winding staircases, stunning boxes and enormous chandeliers, the interior is exactly what one would expect from such a highly-renowned establishment. The theatre also serves as one of the venues for the Salzburg Festspiele. Tickets cost from EUR 8 to EUR 50 depending on the production.

Republic is an institution in Salzburg's nightlife with its great multicultural parties and concerts. From jazz to salsa to techno, musicians and DJs come from all over Europe to enchant their audience. Among others, party themes include Salsa and 80's Disco nights. The place is for art, culture and communication. Hence, not only are the local artists promoted but some come also from Poland, Turkey or Slovenia. The venue can accomodate up to 700 people. Here is a tip: don't only visit the place when it transforms into a club on friday and saturday nights but come here also to enjoy live music for breakfast. The restaurant is open everyday until 11p and the bar has been designed in the style of American Bars from the 50's.

Szene Salzburg

Entertainment at its best
Anton Neumayr-Platz 2
Salzburg 5020
Austria

Everything began in postwar times when a cinemascope-cinema was established in this building with 600 seats. A bizarre mixture of cinema, concerts and sporting events like boxing took place in the modest building in the heart of the city until 1985. Then the Szene-Festival, a sort of alternative to the Salzburg Festival, started with events claiming to change to avantgarde and experiment in art, music, theatre, concerts, cabaret and above all dance. Events have taken place throughout the year here since 1993. The mixture of events offers a lot of opportunities to be entertained in the true sense of the word and to get an overview of different contemporary areas of art.
