As a city that draws most of its annual profits from tourism, Salzburg is has a wide range of accommodation in all price ranges. Visitors looking for a renowned hotel that is known for its luxury and excellent service may want to book into the Sheraton Salzburg Hotel, which is situated amidst a quiet park near the Mirabell Palace. Another high profile choice would be the Sheraton Salzburg Hotel, close to the Palace of Mirabell and in quiet park surroundings. Another high profile choice would be the Hotel Sacher Salzburg, situated right next to the River Salzach. From here, you can enjoy magnificent view over the old city. The Hotel Bristol, which overlooks the Markart Square is another exquisite address which is actually very near the Hotel Sacher Salzburg.

4 Star Hotels

If these 5 star hotels are a little out of your price range then you may wish to consider a 4 star hotel. If you are arriving by plane, then the Airporthotel Salzburg, which is known for its hospitality, conveniently falls into this category. supplies sufficient service and luxury to gain 4 stars. The same applies to the Renaissance Salzburg Hotel Kongresszentrum, which is very close to the city's main train station and central bus terminal of Salzburg. If you would prefer to be closer to the city centre the staff at the Novotel Salzburg City will readily welcome to you to their beautiful premises at the top end of the Linzergasse, one of Salzburg's most impressive and oldest roads!

3 Star Hotels

Let's now look at some of the city's 3 star hotels, the choice of the average tourist: remarkably enough Salzburg's small city centre does not only have something tucked away for tourists with money to burn. People with medium-sized wallets can also rest assured. Train travellers might want to think about booking into the Hotel Auerhahn, a small family run hotel close to the station and the Salzburg bus terminal. People planning to be as close to the sights as possible, will be delighted to hear about the Hotel Stein, directly next to the river Salzach, amidst the historic part of the city!

Also close to the centre but slightly more quiet, is the beautiful little Hotel Nonntal. A short walk takes you to the bustling centre of Salzburg, but the hotel is peaceful and quiet. Another very central hotel is the Hotel Am Dom, which, as the name suggests is extremely close to the Salzburg Cathedral. A further option in this category could be the Hotel Blaue Gans, Altstadthotel, which is in a beautiful neighbourhood.

Bed & Breakfasts

If you leave the city centre and drive for about quarter of an hour, you can find a selection of bed and breakfasts and small hotels in a countryside setting. Most of these offer their visitors typical Austrian food, atmosphere and hospitality. One such place is the Hotel Mostwastl, already an institution in its own right. It is situated in the shadow of the Untersberg and from here, you have magnificent views of the mountains, despite the relative proximity to the centre of Salzburg. The Hotel Sch?ne Aussicht, on the road to the lake district of Salzburg also ensures beautiful views - from here, tourists can enjoy wonderful, panoramic views of the city.

Sporty tourists may consider the Hotel Nussdorferhof, in the picturesque area of Leopoldskron, where they can make use of the tennis courts and the swimming pool.

1 & 2 Star Hotels

Budget travellers are lucky too because Salzburg has quite a few 1 and 2 star hotels. You could choose theHotel Wastlwirt, next to the famous Stiegl brewery of Salzburg. This small, family-run hotel is small and tidy and you can get rooms at a very reasonable rate. Plus, the city centre is only 10 minutes walk away. Closer to the city centre, you can choose between the K¨¹nstlerhaus, a wonderful old building that has comfy rooms and the Hotel ?berfuhr, which is right next to the river Salzach. If you stay at the latter, you will have to walk for about 20 minutes to get to most tourist attractions but the peaceful area and picturesque views surrounding the hotel definitely make a stay here worthwhile.

Book In Advance

This is just a short summary of the numerous hotels that Salzburg can offer its visitors. There is sure to be one that suits your requirements! Do book well in advance though; remember that you are one of the many people who come to explore the beautiful city of Salzburg and its treasures. The best offers are always gone first!

Hotel Stein is situated right next to the Staatsbrücke, the main bridge over the Salzach. If you walk out the door you can see the cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which can be reached in less than 5 minutes. This hotel has been completely refurbished and has become a design-hotel. The rooms are very appealing and they outdo ordinary furbished hotel rooms by far. Nevertheless the building still has the aura of this historic place. On the roof, you'll find Dachterrassencafe Stein with a stunning panoramic view over the Old Town.

Mostwastl

A piece of Salzburg tradition
Mostwastlweg 3
Salzburg 5082
Austria

Mostwastl is a piece of Salzburg tradition and well loved among locals as a centre of all things gourmet. This is a typical Austrian guesthouse that offers comfortably furnished rooms, some with four-poster beds and all maintaining a traditional country ambience. For city hoppers, this is only really to be recommended if travelling by car, unless you don't mind a bit of a ride into town on the bus. Either way, the restaurant with its wonderful beer garden in summer is definitely worth a visit.

Pension Künstlerhaus

Something different

The Künstlerhaus (artists' house) is one of the most attractive buildings in Salzburg and is a sight in its own right. Situated on the banks of River Salzach, its exhibition halls in the basement serve as a venue for a variety of exhibitions. The building also contains six spacious guest rooms, all of which are atmospheric and well furnished - although not all have en-suite facilities. Not a typical hotel by any stretch of the imagination, the Künstlerhaus is something of a well-kept secret when it comes to finding good, cheap accommodation in the city centre. Early booking is recommended.

Schöne Aussicht

A great view
Heuberg 3
Salzburg 5023
Austria
+43 662 640608
http://www.salzburgpanorama.at
Hotel Schöne Aussicht (translated: beautiful view) resides in a 300 year-old farmhouse and lives up to its name. This three-star hotel, situated on the Heuberg, is a great vantage point and owns a fabulous restaurant with an open-air terrace and panoramic views. The modern, well-fitted rooms all have en suite bathrooms and the view applies to most of the rooms too. Unfortunately, this is rather off the beaten track and buses no longer run this route so it is only a wise choice if you have a car.

Sheraton Salzburg Hotel

One of the most luxurious hotels in Salzburg
Auerspergstraße 4
Salzburg 5020
Austria
+43 662 889990
http://www.sheraton.com/salzburg
In Austria, as everywhere in the world, the name Sheraton is synonymous with luxury and class. The hotel, in one of Schwarzstraße's side streets, is about a ten-minute walk from Salzburg's Old Town and fulfils just about every wish guests looking for exquisite service and luxury could fathom. The interior simply throbs with style. The lobby sports amazingly comfortable, beautiful chairs and the reception rather resembles one you might find on a luxury steamboat. Dinner in the small restaurant is in harmony with the Sheraton's reputation of excellence. Right behind the hotel, a vast park stretches out to the famous Mirabell Palace.

Wastlwirt

Great little place
Rochusgasse 15
Salzburg A - 5020
Austria
+43 662 820100
http://www.wastlwirt.com
Wastlwirt is just as charming as the name sounds. This small but well-equipped establishment is situated very near Stiegl brewery, although its fabulous restaurant and inexpensive rooms make it popular with a more varied clientele. Known for its friendly, family-like atmosphere and attentive service, Wastlwirt is a good, relatively undiscovered little place and only a 20-minute walk from the city centre. A tip for insiders!
