High class and central |
Rudolfskai 28 / Judengasse 15 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 8485710 http://www.austria-trend.at/ass |
This luxury hotel of the best sort sets itself out from the rest by the fact that it is located right in the Old Town. Situated on the Rudolskai by River Salzach, it is about as close as you can get to all the highlights of Mozart's City. There's a great view over the Kapuzinerberg, River Salzach and the Giselakai on the one side, and the ambience of the Waag Square and the Judengasse on the other side. Class paired with the flair of Salzburg's Old Town is a fusion close to perfection. The rooms are luxurious with plenty of wooden floorboards and period furniture. Review © 2007, Wcities |

As central as it gets! |
Kaigasse 33 Salzburg A - 5010 Austria +43 662 8424450 http://www.kasererbraeu.at |
Hotel Kasererbräu is situated in a 650 year-old listed building in the Old Town. Although you'll find it in the middle of the pedestrian zone, access by car is still possible. The convivial hotel is stylish and inviting; the rooms are heavily accented by antique furniture although retain a modern feel. There are some games rooms, rather reminiscent of those of a country house or even a castle. This hotel would be well suited to those interested in history and culture. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Peaceful city hotel |
Blumensteinstraße 8 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 640097 http://www.arenberg-salzburg.at/ |
Tucked away in a side street, the Blumensteinstraße, Hotel Arenberg is an exclusive four-star hotel in an extremely quiet but central location. It offers well-equipped and nicely decorated rooms, most with their own balconies and a grandiose view over the mountain panorama. The hotel is situated at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg and all the major sights and attractions of the Old Town can be reached on foot in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. There is a beautiful garden and a comfortable leisure room; great for settling down with a good book if the weather isn't up to much. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stay next to the park |
Alpenstraße 6 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 20600 http://www.castellani-parkhote... |
This hotel is actually an old manor house, arguably a palace. Over a hundred exclusive, tastefully designed rooms provide guests with the most modern of comforts. Furthermore the rooms have been refurbished lately. The hotel owns its own famous, very well reputed restaurant and although it lies right next to a park, this hotel is only ten minutes away from the city-centre. There's also another unusual touch: this hotel has its own baroque chapel, which can be booked for weddings and christenings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great view of the countryside |
Eichstraße 70 Salzburg A - 5020 Austria +43 662 6406460 http://www.hotel-kendl.at |
Restaurant Kendl is well known in Salzburg thanks to its exquisite Austrian cuisine. That said, the hotel in the same building is certainly not in the shadow because of it. All rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped to three star standards. The service is professional and friendly with the staff always willing to lend a hand. The 500 years old building is located on the outskirts of Salzburg. This provides a great view of the countryside. Coach groups seem to be particularly fond of this place. Probably because buses into the city are regular and what this place lacks in convenience it makes up for in calm and beauty. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good value hotel in Linzergasse |
Linzer Gasse 48 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 872300 http://www.hotel-goldenekrone.... |
Hotel Goldene Krone is situated centrally in Linzergasse, the second most important of Salzburg's shopping streets. The hotel is fitted with all mod cons, enjoys an enviable reputation and is great value for money. Some of the rooms are a shade on the small side and not all have en suite facilities, but there is a lovely sun terrace guests may use to while away the hours on sunny afternoons. Luxurious hotel for festival-guests |
Getreidegasse 37 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 80840 http://www.luxurycollection.co... |
Goldener Hirsch (literally, The Golden Stag) is a name visitors have associated with Salzburg's Festival for a matter of generations. The hotel, situated in the city centre on the Herbert von Karajan Square, is known worldwide for its exquisite service and class. Important, wealthy guests fill the hotel with life during the Festspiel season. The rooms are pure luxury, with typical Austrian wooden floors and period furniture throughout. The restaurant, on the ground floor, enjoys an excellent reputation and the hotel staff treat guests as friends of the family. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Salzburg's leafy island |
Rennbahnstraße 11 Salzburg A-5020 Austria +43 662 623268-0 http://www.hotel-scheck.com/ |
Guesthouse Scheck lies close to River Salzach, on the outskirts of the rather elegant district of Aigen. The nice thing about this area is that there are still quite a few green spaces left. Volksgarten Park, for instance, is only a few hundred metres away. Apart from a little lake and a rather nice fountain this park also offers a number of tennis courts and other sports facilities. If you stroll along the banks of River Salzach you can reach the town centre in about 10 to 15 minutes. This guesthouse is located very centrally and still lies in a peaceful area. Central budget accomodation |
Schanzlgasse 12 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 846798 http://www.downtownhotel.at |
Restaurant/Hotel Hinterbrühl, in the Old Town, has a total of twelve rooms for guests, which are often full due to the incredibly low prices. There are some simple single rooms as well as showers and toilets in the corridor. Guests should book early, as it is a popular place to stay. The restaurant serves good traditional Austrian food. Residing in the shadow of the fortress is quite a peaceful experience. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This atmospheric hotel in the Old Town is located in a 600 year-old building close to all the major venues for the Salzburg Festival. The hotel offers contemporary service and comfort in an historical setting: All rooms are furnished with modern design-elements. The 400-year-old hotel restaurant is truly excellent and guests would be well advised to take advantage of the offer of half-board at a surcharge of EUR 31. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This luxurious hotel in the middle of Salzburg is situated at the southernmost end of Mirabell Garden. From the first moment you enter this hotel, you can sense the elegance and style. All rooms have luxurious en-suite bathrooms and all mod cons including internet connections. Such refined exclusivity and unadulterated luxury are reminiscent of the belle époque. Its restaurant, Polo Lounge, is known for its excellent cuisine, while the Pianobar stages live music. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Myths and legends |
Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse 4 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 843397 http://www.elefant.at/ |
Hotel Elefant acquired its name when the King of Portugal sent an elephant as a wedding gift to the Austrian king in Vienna. Legend has it the elephant stayed in this very building, and the name has stuck. The hotel, a 700-year-old establishment near Getreidegasse, boasts stylish rooms with en-suite facilities. A historic vaulted cellar contains the hotel restaurant, Der Ratsherrenkeller, which serves good, hearty meals. With such a central location, Hotel Elefant is particularly well-suited to those keen to explore the city on foot. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hotel Gablerbräu, in Linzergasse, is more than 600 years old. Nevertheless it maintains modern standards in the heart of Salzburg. The hundred-room hotel combines historical charm with modern service. The so-called Bürgerstuben have been transformed into lovely rooms, designed with comfort in mind. Children under 6 can stay in their parents' room free of charge. Stadtwirtshaus Gabler, the hotel restaurant enjoys a fabulous reputation for its good cooking. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hotel Stadtkrug is surrounded by history and lies in Linzergasse, in a 14th century building. The entirely renovated hotel boasts comfortable, elegant rooms designed with plenty of attention to detail. This hotel also offers one of the most beautiful roof-decks in Salzburg. The hotel restaurant is said to be one of Salzburg's finest and is almost an institution in itself in the city. Note that it does some very good specials for lunch and dinner. Hotel Stein is situated right next to the Staatsbrücke, the main bridge over the Salzach. If you walk out the door you can see the cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which can be reached in less than 5 minutes. This hotel has been completely refurbished and has become a design-hotel. The rooms are very appealing and they outdo ordinary furbished hotel rooms by far. Nevertheless the building still has the aura of this historic place. On the roof, you'll find Dachterrassencafe Stein with a stunning panoramic view over the Old Town. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A hotel with a very reasonable price relationship |
Kaigasse 7 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 8434530 http://www.hotelwolf.at |
This hotel is located in the Old Town near Mozartplatz. The building was first established in 1429 and it still has got the atmosphere of past times. Because the building is historic, some of the rooms are a bit small. However, all rooms on the upper floors are accessible by elevator. This hotel offers accommodation at very good value for money. It is recommended to book in advance, as the hotel has only 15 rooms. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Peaceful Nonntal |
Nonntaler Hauptstraße 49b Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 83086-0 http://www.pensionkatrin.at |
Hotel Katrin is one of the numerous smaller hotels that offer rooms for tourists in the quiet, picturesque Nonntaler Hauptstraße. It is situated right close to the Festungsberg (translated: fortress mountain) and guests can reach the city centre via a wonderful little footpath over the mountain. Peace and quiet is one of the main highlights here. The rooms are not exactly luxurious but, with en suite facilities, offer everything the average tourist with a relatively limited budget requires. Apartments are also available, complete with their own kitchens, great for a family planning to stay a little longer in the city. Since enlargement there is also a sauna available. Close to the city centre and with all the charm of countryside living. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something different |
Franz Hinterholzer Kai 2a Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 664 3415728 http://www.pensionkuenstlerhau... |
The Künstlerhaus (artists' house) is one of the most attractive buildings in Salzburg and is a sight in its own right. Situated on the banks of River Salzach, its exhibition halls in the basement serve as a venue for a variety of exhibitions. The building also contains six spacious guest rooms, all of which are atmospheric and well furnished - although not all have en-suite facilities. Not a typical hotel by any stretch of the imagination, the Künstlerhaus is something of a well-kept secret when it comes to finding good, cheap accommodation in the city centre. Early booking is recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The city's best and most expensive hotel |
Schwarzstraße 5-7 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 88977 http://www.sacher.com/ |
The city's most luxurious and expensive hotel lies right in the centre of Salzburg next to River Salzach. It was built in the 1960s and was refurbished some years ago, which considerably added to its status. Those who have money at their disposal love to stay here, especially when the festival is on. The rooms have a modem connection, anything else you may require and more. The Sacher's atmosphere is elegant and brings alive the flair that prevailed in the past. Apart from the restaurants affiliated to the hotel, there is also Cafe Sacher, known for its world-famous Sachertorten (Sacher gateau). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Like so many other student residences, Schwarzes Rössl rents its rooms to tourists in the summer months (July until September). The Priesterhausgasse (a road), in which the halls of residence can be found, is right next to the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Church of the Holy Trinity) and Markart Square. Despite the rock bottom prices, the standard of the rooms is pretty good, although only a few have en suite bathrooms. The best way to go about securing a room is to book well in advance. A homely hotel in Nonntal |
Nonntaler Hauptstraße 35 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 843728 http://www.struber.at |
Hotel Struber is situated in Nonntal, certainly one of the most beautiful districts Salzburg has to offer. The hotel is not far from the city centre, but also not in the thick of things. The rooms are furnished in a traditional style, are very spacious and comfortable. Because there are only a total of 14 rooms, reserving is recommended and it is worth asking for a room with a balcony and a view of the Hohensalzburg Fort. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hotel zur goldenen Ente (literally, Hotel of the Golden Duck) is certainly a bit of an insider's tip among the hotels in Salzburg. Even Goldgasse, the road in which the hotel lies, is worth a visit and it is fascinating to stay in a 500 year-old building. For a hotel of its class, it is well furnished and maintained as it has been refurbished recently. The rooms all have en suite facilities and the hotel has its own restaurant, Gasthaus zur goldenen Ente, which comes highly recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |
