Griesgasse 19-21 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 8421600 http://www.billa.at |
This supermarket, which is opposite the Hanuschplatz bus station, is the biggest grocery store in the Old Town as well as one of the cheapest. You can find everything from fruit and vegetables at the entrance to counters for cheese and sausages, which also make sandwiches. There is also a fine range of wines and bread is baked throughout the day. It does get busy at certain times of the day though. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Market with healthy products |
Papagenoplatz Salzburg 5020 Austria |
Every Friday, a small market is held on the beautiful Papagenoplatz (in the city centre). Organic farmers from the area surrounding Salzburg sell their products and there certainly is a lot on offer. Farmer Samshof from Neumarkt sells a variety of cheeses (the sheep's cheese is delicious), and Farmer Bishof from Büroos sells fresh meat and sausages. If you want to buy Fresh vegetables, then Farmer Klinger is always a good stop-off point. All of the products are organic so this is an ideal place to buy fresh, healthy food. Quality butcher who also sells snacks |
Linzer Gasse 3 Salzburg 5020 Austria +43 662 874435 |
This butcher is situated in the Linzer Gasse and it offers a great selection of meat and sausages. All meat is butchered on the premises. This is also a good place to get a snack when going for a stroll along the Linzergasse. You could try a roll with a slice of meat loaf called called Leberkas-Semmel. A few hot dishes are served at lunctime but it's a case of standing room only. As there is only space for few people it's not really a good place for groups. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fruits and vegetables for refreshment |
Universitätsplatz Salzburg 5020 Austria |
When walking through the city centre, you will sooner or later come to University Square. Between Collegiate Church and Mozart's Birthplace there are a lot of stalls selling fresh local fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, seafood, bread and cheese, along with more exotic delicacies. The colourful picture is completed by the crowds of people who throng to this market, tourists as well as natives. It's well worth a visit, though some people might find the prices too high.
