A brew with a view |
1414 S. Alamo St, Suite 105 (in the Blue Star Arts Complex) San Antonio, TX 78210 United States +1 210 212 5506 http://www.bluestarbrewing.com/ |
Hop a trolley from the River Walk for something different at this brewpub. The huge copper brewing tanks here figure prominently and a sizable patio offers a view of the tranquil end of the River. Along with the variety of beers, it offers standard fare such as burgers and chicken wings, as well as a few surprises including Sautéed Chicken and Artichokes and Grilled Salmon. Try a four-ounce sample of the Smoked Dark Ale or the creamy Stout for only USD1. Note that the kitchen stops serving food at 10pm during the week and at midnight on weekends. Irish Pub on the River Walk |
Hilton Palacio del Rio 715 E River Walk St San Antonio, TX 78205 United States +1 210 222 1400 |
When you think of San Antonio, you don't necessarily think of an Irish pub, now do you? Well, think again. Durty Nelly's, located on the River Walk on the river level of the Hilton hotel, is a rollicking good time. Pull up a chair, order a beer (or two, or ten) and sing along with the pianist. A versatile guy, the pianist takes requests and can play just about anything. Probably the most fun thing to do is munch on the peanuts and toss the shells on the floor. Yes, it is allowed! Legendary dance hall |
1281 Gruene Rd San Antonio, TX 78130 United States +1 830 606 1281 http://www.gruenehall.com |
Only about a 30-minute drive from downtown San Antonio, this hall's tiny stage has hosted more legendary musicians than anywhere else. It is also not uncommon to encounter a film crew using the historic hall as a backdrop for a major motion picture or music video. The hall is basic, with its wooden floor, long bar, cold beer, guys in cowboy hats and girls in tight jeans, but it is also authentic. The building was constructed in the late 1880s as the social center of a small cotton farming community. In the 1970s it was saved from sure dessimation by its current owners, and it has since become an institution in Texas music. Past performers have included Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Kelly Willis, Marty Stuart, Joe Ely and many, many more. Cover charges vary. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eclectic neighborhood icehouse |
100 Probandt St (behind Blue Star Arts Complex) San Antonio, TX 78204 United States +1 210 224 8862 |
This ultra-casual bar provides the perfect backdrop for soaking up a few brews, a little sun and a lot of local color. A few tables are inside, but most of the action takes place on the patio under a canopy of huge pecan trees. When they open the purple garage door, you know it is time to party. For a list of beers, ask the bartender or just look at the bottle caps blanketing the patio. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A refreshing taste of Old World cooking |
1546 Babcock Rd San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 366 9523 |
Looking for some Old World German cooking? Then go straight to this Northwest-side delicatessen, which offers family dining and Old World charm, and is always open for a late breakfast, lunch or dinner. The dining is casual, the food delicious and the atmosphere charming. You will find everything from schnitzel and wurst to potato pancakes at the Old World Delicatessen. Step up to the counter and step back in time; the cooking is just like Oma used to make. Dieters beware, though: the rich, creamy desserts are almost decadent, but they are definitely worth trying.
