Hop a trolley from the River Walk for something different at this brewpub. The huge copper brewing tanks here figure prominently and a sizable patio offers a view of the tranquil end of the River. Along with the variety of beers, it offers standard fare such as burgers and chicken wings, as well as a few surprises including Sautéed Chicken and Artichokes and Grilled Salmon. Try a four-ounce sample of the Smoked Dark Ale or the creamy Stout for only USD1. Note that the kitchen stops serving food at 10pm during the week and at midnight on weekends.

San Antonio, TX 78209
United States

The dramatic flaming torches positioned under an open-beam canopy outside the restaurant promises something different...and the food delivers on that promise.A Southwestern theme is emphasized with pine timbers, pleasing shades of turquoise and terracotta, and lots of Native American accessories. The restaurant is always busy during lunch and dinner, so be prepared to wait. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is garnished with spicy goodness. Try the sublime Tudie's Chicken-Fried Tuna ($12.95), the tender Tahoe Tenderloin ($18.95) or the provocative Desert Fire Pasta ($10.95).

Casa Rio was the first restaurant on the River Walk and is still a must if you have never eaten riverside. With colorful décor, inside and outside seating, and a prime location for people-watching, this restaurant is a favorite among both tourists and locals. Add potent, thirst-quenching margaritas, waitresses bustling about in Mexican sundresses, and Mexican favorites such as enchiladas and tamales, and you have the makings of the classic Tex-Mex dining experience. Because no reservations are taken and this is a hot spot, you may want to arrive a little early to avoid long lines.

San Antonio, TX 78209

Crumpets' casual elegance is rivaled only by its contemporary cuisine. Daily specials and beautiful surroundings make this little restaurant and bakery popular among ladies who lunch, couples who kiss and friends who fraternize. Dining al fresco is simply a treat. Let the shade of the live oak trees ease the burden of the sun as you listen to the soft rush of small waterfalls in the background, or sit by one of the huge picture windows and enjoy the scenery from the inside. The varied menu includes a delightful selection of soups, salads, seafood, pasta, beef and chicken. Choose a traditional entrée such as the rosemary chicken, or try something not as traditional, like the ostrich filet. The five-course Sunday brunch is a must-do.

Among desserts the Tres Leches Cake is only for people with a hard-core sweet tooth! Try the margaritas here - they're really good.

Classic Mexican cuisine.

San Antonio, TX 78213
United States
+1 210 340 1337

This is one of San Antonio's best-known Mexican restaurants, and for good reason. Both the food and the beverages are excellent. The margaritas will knock your socks off; be sure to enjoy one on the large, shaded patio. For Mexican cuisine, La Fogata sets an excellent standard with green enchiladas and queso flameado that cannot be beat. Other specialties include the garlic-heavy pollo loco, quesadillas and chile rellenos.

Romance is always in the air at Oasis, the spectacular restaurant and bar at Medina Lake. Even with a huge seating capacity of 350, including the indoor and the outdoor deck, you hardly find an empty table at peak hours over here. The menu has a spread of sophisticated sandwiches, burgers and desserts, like the Fried Shrimp Poor Boy, which is actually rich sumptuous breaded shrimp atop a hoagie roll. But if you want to go for a full-fledged meal you will not be disappointed. Eating though is by-the-side, the most important thing you do at Oasis is relax, admire the sunset and watch the night lights dance on the lake.

StoneWerks Caffe & Bar

Restaurant by day, bar by night
7300 Jones Maltsberger Road
(near the Alamo Quarry Market)
San Antonio, TX 78209
United States
+1 210 828 3508
http://www.stonewerks.com
The décor here is something between a rustic ranch house and a polished hacienda. The interior is fairly standard, with booths and tables, but the wrought-iron tables that dot the patio add a comfortable charm. Strategically placed heaters keep the patio warm and wonderful year-round. A full bar serves several draft and bottled beers as well as a good selection of wine. If you are hungry, drop in for lunch or an early dinner. Start with the divine artichoke dip and then dig in to the pecan breaded chicken. Note that the kitchen stops serving food two hours before closing time.
