Earl Abel's

Earl Abel's
Terrell Plaza Shopping Center
1201 Austin Highway, Ste 175
San Antonio, TX 78209
United States

This restaurant offers casual family dining at reasonable prices and is a favorite among the locals. For that down-home cooking—the kind your mother used to make—you must try the fried chicken, pot roast or fried catfish dinners. For dessert, try a slice of the triple-layer German chocolate or coconut cake. If it's pie you want, the coconut cream pie is quite tempting.

Olmos Pharmacy

Unbelievable chocolate shakes at the lunch counter...and aspirin, too.
3902 McCullough
San Antonio, TX 78212
United States
+1 210 822 3361
Sure, you can find Pepto-Bismol, aspirin and a myriad of other pharmaceutical needs in this small neighborhood drug store. But it's the lunch counter in back that draws the locals. Plop down on a stool and order a juicy burger or a perfectly prepared BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) sandwich with fries. But by all means, order a large chocolate shake. Thick and creamy, they're rumored to be the best in the city and many a patron have agreed.

San Antonio, TX 78216

A venerable Italian fixture in San Antonio, Paletta's offers an extensive line of imported delicacies, casual lunches and food to go. Although Paletta's is technically a food store, its lunches are legendary and draw quite a crowd. Huge sandwiches, homemade Italian specialties such as lasagna and sausage with peppers, and rich desserts top the menu. After your lunch, be sure to allow time to browse the food section and marvel at the variety.

San Antonio, TX 78109

Located at the corner of Toepperwein Road and FM 1976 in Converse, this local favorite is worth the drive required to reach it. For more than 20 years, it has been serving flavorful and inexpensive food in pleasantly large portions. Pizzas, hot and cold submarine sandwiches, salads, soups and appetizers are available, as is a hearty selection of pasta dishes such as spaghetti, lasagna and mostaccioli. All entrees are available with extra Italian sausage or meatballs if you're extra hungry. Top it off with a cappuccino or some of Papa Dante's hot apple skillet a la mode and you won't regret the trip.

This popular little deli has distinguished itself by offering a classic menu with a twist. Beyond the usual hoagie, offerings include WD's signature spinach chicken sandwich, tomato and basil soup, homemade cakes and pies, and a number of daily specials. The health conscious can opt for the reduced fat or non-fat sandwiches and salads. The ambiance is relaxed and encourages lingering. A rotating exhibit of local artwork adorns the walls, and a stack of local newspapers provides delightful diversions if you should be dining alone.
