Blue Star Brewing Company

Hop a trolley from the River Walk for something different at this brewpub. The huge copper brewing tanks here figure prominently and a sizable patio offers a view of the tranquil end of the River. Along with the variety of beers, it offers standard fare such as burgers and chicken wings, as well as a few surprises including Sautéed Chicken and Artichokes and Grilled Salmon. Try a four-ounce sample of the Smoked Dark Ale or the creamy Stout for only USD1. Note that the kitchen stops serving food at 10pm during the week and at midnight on weekends.

Cafe Ole

Quaint Mexican Restaurant on the River Walk
527 River Walk
San Antonio, TX 78205
United States
+1 210 223 2939
While the city, along with the River Walk for that matter, is overrun with Mexican restaurants, this one distinguishes itself by offering both a beautiful view of the River Walk and a quiet atmosphere. Along with a friendly wait staff, Cafe Ole offers patrons sweet serenades of Mexican mariachis on a nightly basis. The mariachis are one of the defining local Hispanic traditions and really give guests an authentic taste of the culture that makes San Antonio unique. The menu is more Tex-Mex than pure Mexican, but includes tasty fajitas, enchiladas, flautas and quesadillas to name a few selections. This restaurant is also known for its good selection of margaritas.

Casa Rio was the first restaurant on the River Walk and is still a must if you have never eaten riverside. With colorful décor, inside and outside seating, and a prime location for people-watching, this restaurant is a favorite among both tourists and locals. Add potent, thirst-quenching margaritas, waitresses bustling about in Mexican sundresses, and Mexican favorites such as enchiladas and tamales, and you have the makings of the classic Tex-Mex dining experience. Because no reservations are taken and this is a hot spot, you may want to arrive a little early to avoid long lines.

Crumpets Restaurant & Bakery

San Antonio, TX 78209
United States
+1 210 821 5600

Crumpets' casual elegance is rivaled only by its contemporary cuisine. Daily specials and beautiful surroundings make this little restaurant and bakery popular among ladies who lunch, couples who kiss and friends who fraternize. Dining al fresco is simply a treat. Let the shade of the live oak trees ease the burden of the sun as you listen to the soft rush of small waterfalls in the background, or sit by one of the huge picture windows and enjoy the scenery from the inside. The varied menu includes a delightful selection of soups, salads, seafood, pasta, beef and chicken. Choose a traditional entrée such as the rosemary chicken, or try something not as traditional, like the ostrich filet. The five-course Sunday brunch is a must-do.

Francesca's at Sunset

Elegant Restaurant with a View of the Hill Country
16641 La Cantera Parkway
Westin La Cantera Resort
San Antonio, TX 78250
United States
+1 210 558 6500
A resort as elegant as the Westin La Cantera would be expected to offer a restaurant as lovely. Mark Miller, Santa Fe's chef extraordinaire, designed the menu, which has received continual raves since the restaurant's opening. Try the Shrimp Corncakes or the Gazpacho before diving into to perfectly prepared steak and seafood entrees. The wine list is as impressive as the service. The only thing better is the panoramic view of the Hill Country, a true crowning touch. Francesca's is popular with locals as well as resort guests, so reservations are highly recommended.

If you have children, this restaurant is a must. Joe's Crab Shack, located in the Quarry Shopping Center, has everything, from excellent crab, fish, shrimp, hush puppies and oysters to a fun and lively environment. What make Joe's stand out from the sea of restaurants are the friendly wait staff and the singing and dancing. At random points, music will start to boom from all corners of the restaurant, at which time the employees begin performing a choreographed dance. Not only do the patrons have a ball, the performers truly have a blast, too. This restaurant provides entertainment for children and parents or for large groups of friends. If you want candlelight and wine, stay away. If you're looking for laughs, loud music and great food, Joe's Crab Shack is the ticket. It also has a sandy play area for kids in the back.

United States

Dining just does not get more Texan than a cold beer and a good steak, and that is what you get at the Little Rhein. This famous River Walk restaurant is housed in the oldest two-story structure in San Antonio, which was built in 1847. Antique memorabilia decorates the walls and takes you back to an age when Texans sat down to dinner with their six guns. The menu contains a variety of steaks, ranging from filet mignons to T-bones to rib eyes. All steaks are served with salad, baked potato and "Texas Caviar" (deliciously seasoned, baked black-eyed peas).

This restaurant is known for its Texas cuisine. Chicken-fried steak is served up here in heaping portions, as are most of the other entrees. You'll also find steaks, ribs, chicken and catfish here, as well as popular desserts such as apple and pecan pie ala mode. The majority of the seating is on a long second-story balcony that overlooks the River Walk, giving you a nice way to dine in a somewhat quiet setting without missing out on the action taking place below you.

Michelino's

Quaint Italian eatery on the River Walk
521 River Walk St
San Antonio, TX 78205
United States
+1 210 223 2939
One of the prettier restaurants on the River Walk, Michelino's has an excellent seating area that seems to compliment the surroundings. The food here is solidly Italian, with a North Italian country appeal. The pastas come accompanied with fresh poultry, veal, beef and seafood with flavorful sauces. If they all look good and you can't decide, then try the Angel Hair Di Mare with a roasted garlic cream sauce. The restaurant has an excellent wine list, as well, which does include some affordable selections. This place is an excellent choice for business dinners or just a lovely evening out.

Romance is always in the air at Oasis, the spectacular restaurant and bar at Medina Lake. Even with a huge seating capacity of 350, including the indoor and the outdoor deck, you hardly find an empty table at peak hours over here. The menu has a spread of sophisticated sandwiches, burgers and desserts, like the Fried Shrimp Poor Boy, which is actually rich sumptuous breaded shrimp atop a hoagie roll. But if you want to go for a full-fledged meal you will not be disappointed. Eating though is by-the-side, the most important thing you do at Oasis is relax, admire the sunset and watch the night lights dance on the lake.

Classic Mexican food and real fruit margaritas on the River Walk
415 E Commerce St

The River Walk boasts a disproportionate number of Mexican restaurants. So, what does one do to stand out from the crowd? Create different flavored margaritas made out of fresh fruit and have such a large selection that people just keep coming back again and again. While you enjoy your drink, dine on classic Mexican fare such as fajitas, enchiladas, burritos and tacos. Lots of outdoor seating is available overlooking the River Walk.

Elegant Italian dining

San Antonio, TX 78209
United States
+1 210 828 5191
http://www.paesanos.com
One of the most acclaimed Italian restaurants in San Antonio, Paesano's has been a local favorite for decades. Tourists are most familiar with its location on the River Walk, but the one just north of downtown in Lincoln Heights, near the Quarry Marketplace, offers the same great menu in a different atmosphere. Paesano's in Lincoln Heights is relaxed yet sophisticated, a place to see and be seen. Be sure to visit on a nice day during sunset. The west room has a spectacular sunset view overlooking the Quarry Golf Course; it's a view that you would not want to miss, especially with that special someone. You can choose from a variety of dinners including red snapper sautéed with artichokes, mushrooms and white wine; orange roughly with lemon butter and garlic; and shrimp with fra diavolo sauce. Of course, the restaurant would not be the same without its namesake, Gamberi Paesano (Shrimp Paesano), which is served as either an appetizer or a dinner.

If you are planning a trip to the Alamo city, there are two things you must eat: any type of authentic Mexican food and Paesano's "Shrimp Paesano." This incredible appetizer/entree is so rich and tasty that you won't know when to stop. Paesano's on the River Walk has a relaxed yet upscale atmosphere; you can sit inside or by the river and browse through an extensive wine list. Don't stop with the Shrimp Paesano, though, because everything on the menu is fresh and scrumptious. The pasta dishes are huge, the pizza is made with fresh, innovative ingredients, and the meats are varied and delicious. If you're dining away from downtown, but still in the mood for Italian food, visit Paesano's at its Quarry location.

Charm and elegance are the setting for this quiet, yet beautiful dining environment. Located inside the Historic Fairmount Hotel, you will find fine wine, contemporary art, and Southwest cuisine flavored with a bit of the orient. Be sure to try their Mesquite Grilled Rabbit or Australian Lamb Chops for a most delightful and different epicurean experience. Leaning toward something more oriental? Try the Midnight Chicken with a Moroccan Curry Sauce & Mango Coulis or maybe the Hong Kong Harbor plate consisting of scallions, chilies, bok choi, scallops and salmon with a sesame plum sauce.

Eclectic New American restaurant on the River Walk

San Antonio, TX 78205
United States
+1 210 210 223 9141
http://www.presidioplaza.com/
This is one of the more elegant places to eat on the River Walk. As you walk by this restaurant, you cannot help but notice the mission-like colonnade entrance that beckons you to enter. The outdoor patio seating surrounds a beautiful, large wrap-around bar, which anchors this restaurant.

The food here is described as eclectic New American and compliments the surroundings nicely. The menu is rounded out with unique selections of pasta, poultry, pork, and top-grade beef. Although most of the entrees are excellent, waiters tend to push the ever-popular pecan-crusted chicken in an apple/brandy/butter sauce.

Although this is one of the only restaurants on the River Walk that opens for breakfast, it is for lunch or dinner that you should visit. Enjoy tasty enchiladas and chicken dishes, or a huge spinach salad with grilled salmon. Be sure to save room for dessert, too. The lively interior, which contains only a moderate amount of seating, opens to an expansive riverside patio populated with colorful, mosaic-tiled tables and scurrying sparrows. A popular spot among locals and tourists alike, the place fills early; large groups should call ahead to make reservations. The restaurant also has a fairly large banquet area for private functions.
