Soups, salads and sandwiches |
8637 Fredericksburg Road 145 San Antonio, TX 78240 United States +1 210 691 698 http://www.annemaries.com/ |
Anne Marie's a simple place with humble beginnings and a healthy menu. The restaurant might not be a wow place for a brunch or lunch, but it certainly has your nutritional requirements in mind. Daily specials are hot, literally, and the price is cool. The place is more popular for its banquet rooms at Devonshire, and Anne Marie's catering capabilities are renowned anyway. In the meanwhile, for those interested in a light lunch, which is lighter on your pocket, step into Anne Marie's. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Juicy, tended barbecue |
5145 Fredericksburg Rd. San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 344 8401 |
For that uniquely Texan barbecue flavor, Bob's Smokehouse is the place to go. Whether you choose the juicy brisket, smoked sausage, barbecue chicken or beef ribs, a better barbecue plate is hard to come by. For something a little outside the norm, you might want to try the lamb ribs. Be sure to get a helping of the homemade beans and potato salad, too. Finally, don't forget desert; the fresh-baked sweet potato pie is a real treat. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Country cuisine in the city |
9821 Colonnade Blvd Omni Hotel San Antonio, TX 78230 United States +1 210 699 5864 |
Looking for wild game, then look to Bolo's, located in the Omni Hotel. It offers a diverse menu. From the rotisserie, you will find free-range chicken with potato gratin and mushroom sauce, Long Island duck served with wild rice. The herb-rubbed pork loin with brandied apples and French onion risotto is always a favorite. If steaks are more to your liking, then try the bone-in strip steak with an ancho chili sauce and potato gratin or maybe the center-cut filet mignon with garlic butter and vegetable ratatouille. The restaurant also serves breakfast and lunch. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coffee, cats and chai |
7920 Fredericksburg Rd (behind Grill on the Hill restaurant) San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 692 9600 |
What it lacks in friendly service, Calcutta makes up for in atmosphere. Hidden behind the Grill on the Hill restaurant in the Medical Center, this unassuming house-turned-coffeehouse welcomes everyone from poets and artists to students and business executives. If this place were any more laid back, it would fall over. Surreal paintings with a religious motif clutter the walls inside, and a couple of fat cats claim squatter's rights on the quaintly mismatched chairs and tables. Espresso, cappuccino, latte and the now-popular chai are served day and night along with breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you're not one for java, several bottled beers are also available. 52 different margaritas |
2026 Babcock Rd San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 615 7000 http://www.cha-chas.com |
The festively named Cha Cha's, located in the heart of the Medical Center area, is big on atmosphere. The decor ranges from traditional and somewhat boring to elegant and quaint. For a romantic dinner, ask for a table in the gazebo section. Each secluded table is surrounded by a white wrought-iron dome laced with (ahem, plastic) ivy. However, after a few of this place's 52 varieties of margaritas, you won't care. Expect to find the usual Tex-Mex favorites: enchiladas, tacos and fajitas. The second Cha Cha's location is at 5616 Bandera Road in San Antonio (+1 210 681 2066). Review © 2007, Wcities |

The restaurant on stilts |
4531 NW Loop 410 (exit Callaghan) San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 340 7944 |
Of the many Chinese restaurants in San Antonio, this establishment holds the distinction of being the only one on stilts. This unique restaurant on the outskirts of the Medical Center offers a satisfying menu of Szechuan, Cantonese, Hunan and Mandarin style cuisines. Traditional and comfortable, this restaurant is more elegant than most. Ding How offers both lunch and dinner specials. At night, order a la carte or from several combination plates starting at USD10.25. Family dinners for anywhere from USD19.95 for two people and from USD59.95 for six people. A full bar is available for the adults, and child plates are available for the kids. Review © 2007, Wcities |

English pub with a twist |
12651 Vance Jackson Rd Ste 110 San Antonio, TX 78230 United States +1 210 696 1356 http://www.totent.com |
Unfortunately stuck in a strip mall, the Fox and Hound offers a casual but upscale English pub atmosphere, with a few minor adjustments. Watch a sporting event while enjoying tasty food and choosing from a wide selection of beers and ales from around the world. Hunting scenes (foxes and hounds, not guns and deer, thank you) decorate the richly colored walls, while 33 large-screen TV's broadcast sporting events and music videos. Game rooms flank the main room and bar and feature "civilized" entertainment such as billiards, darts and shuffleboard. The kitchen is open all day and serves up generous portions of (non-English) food such as Grand Champion Wings, Philadelphia Chicken Sandwich and Hawaiian Pizza. The service leaves a little to be desired, but overall, you are likely to have a good time. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Japanese Restaurant |
9030 Wurzbach Rd San Antonio, TX 78240 United States +1 210 734 3551 |
"Ogenki desu ka?" This is one of the first things you will hear from the friendly people at Fujiya Japanese Garden Restaurant. The wait staff at Fujiya enjoys taking time to take care of you, as they have been serving some of San Antonio's best Japanese cuisine and sushi since 1970. This is why one of the first things you will hear is "how are you?" in Japanese. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Get a Bib and Enjoy! |
4109 Fredericksburg San Antonio, TX 78201 United States +1 210 732 3571 |
A good place to get some great food, Grady's skips the frills and concentrates on serving tender, juicy barbecue instead. Popular for business meals or family dining, Grady's has personal-size meals and family (or larger) size orders. The brisket will melt in your mouth as the barbeque sauce runs down your chin and the fresh potato salad will remind you of picnics in the park. The beans have a robust, cowboy-style flavor. They are a great pick to go with the hot, spicy sausage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic Mexican cuisine. |
2427 Vance Jackson Rd San Antonio, TX 78213 United States +1 210 340 1337 http://www.lafogata.com |
This is one of San Antonio's best-known Mexican restaurants, and for good reason. Both the food and the beverages are excellent. The margaritas will knock your socks off; be sure to enjoy one on the large, shaded patio. For Mexican cuisine, La Fogata sets an excellent standard with green enchiladas and queso flameado that cannot be beat. Other specialties include the garlic-heavy pollo loco, quesadillas and chile rellenos. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Shells a-firing and grills a-grillin'! Logan's has all the food and spirits you need to round out your day, and you don't even have to clean up your peanut shells off the floor. Rustic ranch with a Texas twist in the form of natural wood chairs and buckets of peanuts at your table. Loaded hamburgers, steaks, ribs, salmon, huge sandwiches, large salads and a variety of vegetables can be expected in a very reasonable amount of time during lunch and dinner. Take a load off with a domestic or imported beer, a glass of wine or a specialty drink. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A refreshing taste of Old World cooking |
1546 Babcock Rd San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 366 9523 |
Looking for some Old World German cooking? Then go straight to this Northwest-side delicatessen, which offers family dining and Old World charm, and is always open for a late breakfast, lunch or dinner. The dining is casual, the food delicious and the atmosphere charming. You will find everything from schnitzel and wurst to potato pancakes at the Old World Delicatessen. Step up to the counter and step back in time; the cooking is just like Oma used to make. Dieters beware, though: the rich, creamy desserts are almost decadent, but they are definitely worth trying.
