Cajun cookin' at its best |
1289 Southwest Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78227 United States +1 210 674 0019 http://www.acadianacafe.com/? |
For authentic Cajun cookin', this is the place to go in San Antonio. Located on the far west side of the city, the huge restaurant plays host to hordes of locals craving authentic Cajun cuisine, seafood and catfish. As this is definitely a family restaurant, you can expect child- and parent-friendly touches such as lids and straws for milk glasses, a plentiful supply of saltines to munch on, and crayons as a diversion. Housed in what resembles a massive two-story cedar house, the restaurant boasts a large porch and a cavernous interior. The quick and friendly service more than compensates for a table setting that leaves something to be desired (vinyl cloths, heavy wooden chairs and tables balanced on sugar packets for stability). Cajun specialties such as red beans and rice, gumbo and jambalaya abound, and all are wonderfully prepared. Should you crave seafood, any of the shrimp entrees can't be beat. For fish lovers, be sure to try the famous catfish. Side dishes include expected choices such as coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies and basic vegetables. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Here's the Beef |
1100 Bulverde Road San Antonio, TX 78163 United States +1 830 980 6080 http://www.cowcatchers.net |
A great steakhouse at a moderate price, this is the idea behind Cowcatchers Steaks. In a turn of the century setting, the kitchen offers only Certified Angus rib eye steaks, taken from an open mesquite fire directly to your table. Cowcatchers features three massive dining rooms, available for private parties. And for those of you tired of waiting outside in the cold (or heat) with a pager? Garrett's Watering Hole, attached to the main restaurant, is available for your party to wait in style, complete with a full bar and entertainment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Seafood, spirits and song |
16084 San Pedro Ave (between Brookhollow and Thousand Oaks) San Antonio, TX 78232 United States +1 210 496 3386 |
Crabby Jacks is a popular place with the happy-hour crowd, the dinner crowd and the late-night crowd, and it succeeds in catering to all three. With its weather-beaten wood and tank of live lobsters, this bar/restaurant looks like it belongs on a beach more than it does fronting a strip center. The atmosphere is dark and cozy, accented with red lights and lots of beer gear. Pull up a stool at one of the three large bars or grab a booth for drinks and dinner. The menu is laden with seafood items including steamed, fried and broiled selections of fish, crab, shrimp, lobster and oysters. If you don't like shellfish, you can choose from several beef, chicken and pasta entrées. Live singers are featured every night; a DJ takes care of the tunes on Sunday nights before the live performances get started. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Raucous Time on the River Walk |
406 Navarro San Antonio, TX 78205 United States +1 210 224 0026 http://www.dickslastresort.com |
This is by far one of the rowdiest restaurants on the River Walk, so diners can expect loud music, great food, cold beer and steely attitudes from the waitstaff. Do not take your in-laws or your children; unless, of course, they can swig a longneck and crack crab legs with the best of 'em. The food here is good and has a definite Cajun flavor. All entrees either arrive in a bucket (crawfish and crab legs) or on top of butcher paper (hamburgers, ribs, chicken). It's messy, but fun. The crowd tends to get a little crazier the later it gets, as the restaurant gradually morphs into a full-fledged bar with live music every night. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant Restaurant with a View of the Hill Country |
16641 La Cantera Parkway Westin La Cantera Resort San Antonio, TX 78250 United States +1 210 558 6500 |
A resort as elegant as the Westin La Cantera would be expected to offer a restaurant as lovely. Mark Miller, Santa Fe's chef extraordinaire, designed the menu, which has received continual raves since the restaurant's opening. Try the Shrimp Corncakes or the Gazpacho before diving into to perfectly prepared steak and seafood entrees. The wine list is as impressive as the service. The only thing better is the panoramic view of the Hill Country, a true crowning touch. Francesca's is popular with locals as well as resort guests, so reservations are highly recommended. Romantic restaurant in a scenic setting |
19010 Scenic Loop Rd San Antonio, TX 78023 United States +1 210 695 8301 http://www.grey-moss-inn.com |
Best known for its tempting menu and its romantic setting, Grey Moss Inn is worth the short drive out of the city. Dine by candlelight on fresh seafood or on a perfectly grilled steak. Enjoy cocktails or dessert by the crackling fireplace or on the tree-lined patio. Thoughtfully, the chef prepares both heart-healthy and vegetarian dishes in addition to the meat-centric menu. Reservations are strongly recommended. Private banquet rooms are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kid-friendly Cajun Crab House |
255 E Basse Rd #1400 San Antonio, TX 78209 United States +1 210 930 1736 http://www.joescrabshack.com |
If you have children, this restaurant is a must. Joe's Crab Shack, located in the Quarry Shopping Center, has everything, from excellent crab, fish, shrimp, hush puppies and oysters to a fun and lively environment. What make Joe's stand out from the sea of restaurants are the friendly wait staff and the singing and dancing. At random points, music will start to boom from all corners of the restaurant, at which time the employees begin performing a choreographed dance. Not only do the patrons have a ball, the performers truly have a blast, too. This restaurant provides entertainment for children and parents or for large groups of friends. If you want candlelight and wine, stay away. If you're looking for laughs, loud music and great food, Joe's Crab Shack is the ticket. It also has a sandy play area for kids in the back. Plentiful Cajun food, Louisiana-style |
76 NE Loop 410 (on access road east past McCullough) San Antonio, TX 78216 United States +1 210 340 7143 http://www.pappadeaux.com/ |
This is the first San Antonio location for Pappadeaux, a Houston-based chain of Cajun and Creole seafood restaurants. The rustically decorated building is huge and always crowded during serving hours, so expect a wait. The ambiance is bustling and lively, however, and the food is served in generous portions. The kitchen serves a wide variety of fresh shrimp, crawfish, oysters, crab and other seafood, which they will prepare fried, blackened or grilled. Cajun dirty rice and red beans and rice are only two of the many side dishes; there are also four varieties of gumbo as well as etouffee and bisques. Desserts include simple Southern favorites such as key lime pie, chocolate praline cheesecake and a banana crepe ice cream sundae. Review © 2007, Wcities |
