Don't let the name fool you |
8400 North New Braunfels Ave San Antonio, TX 78209 United States +1 210 824 0116 http://www.sawhost.com/barndoor |
The hokey name and checkered plastic tablecloths belie the mouthwatering (and pricey) steaks, chicken and seafood at this San Antonio institution. The Barn Door runs its own butcher shop, and every aged cut is tender and juicy. This steakhouse is huge and its atmosphere is casual, with pictures of horses and cowboys telling the story of old Texas. It's equally suited to a business lunch, a first date or a family night out. If you find yourself waiting for a table on the weekend, wander into the bar and check out the horse racing memorabilia. At lunch, try a tenderloin sandwich or a chicken-fried rib eye steak. At dinner, the six-ounce Lady's Filet and the 14-ounce Gentlemen's Ribeye is most tempting. The restaurant also serves a great selection of seafood, chicken, chicken livers, pork chops and quail. If you're dining with a good friend, pour some extra-garlicky Green Goddess dressing on your salad. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Juicy, tended barbecue |
5145 Fredericksburg Rd. San Antonio, TX 78229 United States +1 210 344 8401 |
For that uniquely Texan barbecue flavor, Bob's Smokehouse is the place to go. Whether you choose the juicy brisket, smoked sausage, barbecue chicken or beef ribs, a better barbecue plate is hard to come by. For something a little outside the norm, you might want to try the lamb ribs. Be sure to get a helping of the homemade beans and potato salad, too. Finally, don't forget desert; the fresh-baked sweet potato pie is a real treat. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mouth-watering barbeque and smoked turkey |
3619 North Panam Expressway San Antonio, TX 78219 United States +1 210 212 6400 |
Casey's has barbecue so good that even the President of the United States has eaten there. This restaurant serves up spicy, flavorful brisket and truly exceptional smoked turkey along with other local favorites such as smoked sausage and barbeque sandwiches. The side dishes are a cut above what is served at most places: the pinto beans are seasoned delicately, and the potato salad is by far one of the tastiest around, with crunchy bits of pickle, yet no mustard-heavy aftertaste. Breakfast tacos are served daily and lunch is served after 11am. Catering is available too. The décor is rustic and Western-themed, featuring genuine saddles, ropes and cowboy memorabilia. Wooden floors and plank tables lend to the Texas ambiance. Casey's delicious barbecue sauce is on every table, so you can kick up the flavor another notch if you please. Review © 2007, Wcities |

True Texas barbecue on the River Walk |
111 West Crockett San Antonio, TX 78205 United States +1 210 229 1941 http://countyline.com/ |
This is the kind of barbecue you dream about. The County Line serves up a variety of tender meat, slow-cooked for 18 hours, that literally falls off of the bone and melts in your mouth. Located on the River Walk, this restaurant not only offers a spectacular view, but also affords downtown visitors an opportunity to enjoy the "state meal" without venturing far from their hotels. Not a beef eater? Don't despair; the barbecue chicken, turkey, pork and sausage are equally tasty. All entrees come served with generous portions of sides, including classic potato salad, beans and coleslaw. For dessert, be sure to try one of the fruit cobblers. A full bar is available, but real Texans drink ice cold beer with their barbecue. Review © 2007, Wcities |

1100 Bulverde Road San Antonio, TX 78163 United States +1 830 980 6080 http://www.cowcatchers.net |
A great steakhouse at a moderate price, this is the idea behind Cowcatchers Steaks. In a turn of the century setting, the kitchen offers only Certified Angus rib eye steaks, taken from an open mesquite fire directly to your table. Cowcatchers features three massive dining rooms, available for private parties. And for those of you tired of waiting outside in the cold (or heat) with a pager? Garrett's Watering Hole, attached to the main restaurant, is available for your party to wait in style, complete with a full bar and entertainment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stained glass and steaks |
1039 Northeast Loop 410 (between Nacogdoches and Broadway) San Antonio, TX 78223 United States +1 210 826 2371 |
If you are looking for corn-fed red meat served in opulent surroundings, this restaurant fits the bill. Stained-glass skylights and room panels set off a wonderfully plush late-19th-century dining area; prime beef, veal and seafood highlight the expansive menu. The Victorian elegance extends to the bar area, where an impressive back-bar holds an excellent choice of libations. The restaurant is a great place for business entertaining or for enjoying a cozy, romantic dinner for two. If you stop by on Sundays between 10:30a and 3p, you can enjoy an incredible brunch with free champagne. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant Restaurant with a View of the Hill Country |
16641 La Cantera Parkway Westin La Cantera Resort San Antonio, TX 78250 United States +1 210 558 6500 |
A resort as elegant as the Westin La Cantera would be expected to offer a restaurant as lovely. Mark Miller, Santa Fe's chef extraordinaire, designed the menu, which has received continual raves since the restaurant's opening. Try the Shrimp Corncakes or the Gazpacho before diving into to perfectly prepared steak and seafood entrees. The wine list is as impressive as the service. The only thing better is the panoramic view of the Hill Country, a true crowning touch. Francesca's is popular with locals as well as resort guests, so reservations are highly recommended. Top-choice steakhouse on the River Walk |
231 South Alamo St San Antonio, TX 78205 United States +1 210 225 2111 http://www.littlerheinsteakhou... |
Dining just does not get more Texan than a cold beer and a good steak, and that is what you get at the Little Rhein. This famous River Walk restaurant is housed in the oldest two-story structure in San Antonio, which was built in 1847. Antique memorabilia decorates the walls and takes you back to an age when Texans sat down to dinner with their six guns. The menu contains a variety of steaks, ranging from filet mignons to T-bones to rib eyes. All steaks are served with salad, baked potato and "Texas Caviar" (deliciously seasoned, baked black-eyed peas). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Classic Texas cuisine on the River Walk |
237 Losoya San Antonio, TX 78205 United States +1 210 223 9374 |
This restaurant is known for its Texas cuisine. Chicken-fried steak is served up here in heaping portions, as are most of the other entrees. You'll also find steaks, ribs, chicken and catfish here, as well as popular desserts such as apple and pecan pie ala mode. The majority of the seating is on a long second-story balcony that overlooks the River Walk, giving you a nice way to dine in a somewhat quiet setting without missing out on the action taking place below you. A Superb Dining Experience |
10223 Sahara San Antonio, TX 78216 United States +1 210 342 2321 |
For over 30 years, the Old San Francisco Steak House has been a San Antonio tradition, serving some of the finest steak dinners in town. Although the restaurant is well known for its steaks, it has enhanced its menu to include fresh seafood and chicken dishes. One of the unique features of this restaurant is the girl in the red velvet swing. She entertains guests as she swings above them as they enjoy their meals. The peppered steak and 12-ounce rib eye are two of the favorites of local patrons, or try the spicy Jamaican chicken. Review © 2007, Wcities |
