Cajun cookin' at its best |
1289 Southwest Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78227 United States +1 210 674 0019 http://www.acadianacafe.com/? |
For authentic Cajun cookin', this is the place to go in San Antonio. Located on the far west side of the city, the huge restaurant plays host to hordes of locals craving authentic Cajun cuisine, seafood and catfish. As this is definitely a family restaurant, you can expect child- and parent-friendly touches such as lids and straws for milk glasses, a plentiful supply of saltines to munch on, and crayons as a diversion. Housed in what resembles a massive two-story cedar house, the restaurant boasts a large porch and a cavernous interior. The quick and friendly service more than compensates for a table setting that leaves something to be desired (vinyl cloths, heavy wooden chairs and tables balanced on sugar packets for stability). Cajun specialties such as red beans and rice, gumbo and jambalaya abound, and all are wonderfully prepared. Should you crave seafood, any of the shrimp entrees can't be beat. For fish lovers, be sure to try the famous catfish. Side dishes include expected choices such as coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies and basic vegetables. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Some like it hot |
255 E Basse Rd Ste 600 San Antonio, TX 78209 United States +1 210 821 3738 http://www.canyoncafe.com |
The dramatic flaming torches positioned under an open-beam canopy outside the restaurant promises something different...and the food delivers on that promise.A Southwestern theme is emphasized with pine timbers, pleasing shades of turquoise and terracotta, and lots of Native American accessories. The restaurant is always busy during lunch and dinner, so be prepared to wait. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is garnished with spicy goodness. Try the sublime Tudie's Chicken-Fried Tuna ($12.95), the tender Tahoe Tenderloin ($18.95) or the provocative Desert Fire Pasta ($10.95). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Coffeehouse in artsy Southtown district |
928 S Alamo St San Antonio, TX 78205-3419 United States +1 210 226 1912 http://www.espumacoffee.com/? |
Located just south of downtown in the area aptly named Southtown, this artsy little coffeehouse is small, but it is a favorite with the locals. It features more coffee drinks than you can imagine, plus a fairly decent breakfast and lunch menu. Exhibits of local artists' works grace the walls and rotate on a regular basis, and you can usually expect live music on the weekends. The large porch proves popular during the fall and spring months. Review © 2007, Wcities |
