Acadiana Cafe

Cajun cookin' at its best
1289 Southwest Loop 410
San Antonio, TX 78227
United States
+1 210 674 0019
http://www.acadianacafe.com/?
For authentic Cajun cookin', this is the place to go in San Antonio. Located on the far west side of the city, the huge restaurant plays host to hordes of locals craving authentic Cajun cuisine, seafood and catfish. As this is definitely a family restaurant, you can expect child- and parent-friendly touches such as lids and straws for milk glasses, a plentiful supply of saltines to munch on, and crayons as a diversion. Housed in what resembles a massive two-story cedar house, the restaurant boasts a large porch and a cavernous interior. The quick and friendly service more than compensates for a table setting that leaves something to be desired (vinyl cloths, heavy wooden chairs and tables balanced on sugar packets for stability). Cajun specialties such as red beans and rice, gumbo and jambalaya abound, and all are wonderfully prepared. Should you crave seafood, any of the shrimp entrees can't be beat. For fish lovers, be sure to try the famous catfish. Side dishes include expected choices such as coleslaw, potato salad, hush puppies and basic vegetables.

Some like it hot

The dramatic flaming torches positioned under an open-beam canopy outside the restaurant promises something different...and the food delivers on that promise.A Southwestern theme is emphasized with pine timbers, pleasing shades of turquoise and terracotta, and lots of Native American accessories. The restaurant is always busy during lunch and dinner, so be prepared to wait. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is garnished with spicy goodness. Try the sublime Tudie's Chicken-Fried Tuna ($12.95), the tender Tahoe Tenderloin ($18.95) or the provocative Desert Fire Pasta ($10.95).

Coffeehouse in artsy Southtown district

Located just south of downtown in the area aptly named Southtown, this artsy little coffeehouse is small, but it is a favorite with the locals. It features more coffee drinks than you can imagine, plus a fairly decent breakfast and lunch menu.

Exhibits of local artists' works grace the walls and rotate on a regular basis, and you can usually expect live music on the weekends. The large porch proves popular during the fall and spring months.

Costumes, good food and fun
902 Northeast Loop 410
San Antonio, TX 78209
United States

Since 1973, this restaurant has been a favorite place for celebrations and good times. The costumed servers are determined to make your visit an enjoyable one: the restaurant's motto is "Dine laughing," and the servers take it seriously. The menu features standard American fare, including steaks, rib eyes, grilled seafood and chicken, all served with fresh baked bread as well as soup and salad from the converted 1952 MG roadster salad bar. The Roman Orgy feast is a vast quantity of brisket, smoked chicken, baby back ribs and mounds of fresh fruit and vegetables. Eat it in the Orgy Pit, the Mineshaft or one of the other themed seating areas. Whatever you do, go determined to have a good time. Magic Time Machine draws a young crowd of diners and is a favored site for birthday parties. Eat, drink and be merry while being served by characters from popular films. Full bar of alcoholic beverages. Banqueting space available.

True Tex-Mex on the River Walk

Mexican food so good, they named it twice. Located in the heart of the city's River Walk, Rio Rio Cantina offers tried-and-true Tex-Mex dining, both indoors and overlooking the river. Do not miss favorites such as Green Enchiladas, beef and Chicken Fajitas and enormous Quesadillas. The bartenders also make a darn good margarita. This is a colorful, fun and noisy place where kids blend in well and have a great time. Private banquet rooms are available, as is private catering, both on premise and off premise.
