While Visiting the Island |
1100 Orange Avenue San Diego, CA 92118 +1 619 435 7242 http://www.coronadohistory.org/ |
Housed within a 1898 Cape Cod-style home is the history of this charming island portrayed through historical photographs and artifacts. The museum contains four galleries. The first provides an overview of Coronado's history and its architectural treasures, the second explores the Navy's role in the development of Coronado, the third hosts traveling exhibitions, and the fourth covers the history of the Hotel del Coronado and its impact on the region. Art, architectural elements, textiles, ephemera, and other memorabilia dating from before the turn-of-the-century have been brought together to weave this history of Coronado. The step-by-step depiction of the construction of Hotel del Coronado is especially popular, as are displays regarding ferry boats and the beachside summer "Tent City" created by sugar magnate John D. Spreckels. In the Museum Store, you'll find every Coronado Island souvenir you'll ever need. Admission: Suggested donation: $4 adults, $3 seniors and active military, $2 children ages 9-17, children under 9 are free. Review © 2009, Wcities |
