Mission Hills

San Diego

Just north of downtown and overlooking Old Town and the harbor is Mission Hills, one of the oldest residential areas of San Diego. This wealthy area features several shops, cafés and parks, in addition to regular street fairs and civic events. Irving Gill, San Diego's most prestigious architect built several homes in Mission Hills. The famous botanist and landscape architect Kate Sessions, who worked on Balboa Park, founded the Mission Hills nursery, which is still an active presence in the neighborhood.
