The laid-back Ocean Beach lifestyle might not seem compatible with antiques, but this beachside town has a dozen shops to choose from. Nearby wares include Balinese batik sundresses, unusual smoking accessories, body piercing and jewelry, plus fine jewelry stores which cater more to the Point Loma residents up on top of the hill than the beachcombers down below. Lined up one after the other on Newport Avenue, even a quick shopper will need hours to get through each antique store. Several inexpensive restaurants make great lunch stops, and the local splurge choice is elegant Qwigg's along the shore, where the second-story windows give a great view of the sunset. Wednesday nights bring a full Farmer's Market that takes over the street with food, llama rides and fresh fruits and vegetables sold by the people who grew them.
