Here's your chance to savor Hawaiian cuisine and a tropical ambience in San Diego. Enjoy a delicious meal against the spectacular San Diego skyline at Bali Hai. This restaurant is perfect for celebrating special occasions or for an intimate dinner. Open for lunch as well as dinner, it is also a great place for weddings and other special events. But the best time to be here is at Sunday brunch. A trip here has become a Sunday ritual for most boat owners. Tip: If you're coming by boat, come early or you'll have to dock too far out.

Enjoy a wonderful view of the marina and the San Diego International Airport as you dine on delightful seafood at this upstairs restaurant. What the kitchen cannot find in San Diego, the chefs fly in fresh from all over the world. Enjoy Northwest Salmon in a mustard seed crust, paired with a bright citrus and watercress sauce. Or go wild mixing cuisines with the Boathouse Savannah Pasta, blending scallops and shrimp in a sauce made of Mexican tequila, Japanese soy sauce and California garlic, served over Italian linguini.

You will not find "Mexican lite" served here. Instead, this is good soul-satisfying Mexican food. You will find enchiladas smothered with sauce and cheese, as well as tostada supremes laden with sour cream and guacamole. Do not forget to ask for the special "white sauce" with the chips and salsa—all the locals do! With good food, friendly service and a full bar, this small restaurant has become a San Diego favorite. Without reservations, expect to wait an hour on weekend nights.

North China Restaurant

Great food and menu
10821 Via Cascabel
San Diego, CA 92106
United States
+1 619 224 3568
Some people who live as far away as L.A. have been known to travel to this eatery on a regular basis. It is definitely worth the trip because the menu is astounding! The restaurant offers more than 200 dishes on the menu and happily the dishes are all prepared without the dreaded MSG. Anything you order will be memorable, but if you have ever tasted the sweet-and-succulent Sauteed Lobster Tail, you too will travel from all points for an encore. The specialty is traditionally-prepared Peking Duck.

A romantic evening is in store at this homey, yet tastefully decorated small restaurant in an unassuming part of San Diego. Candlelight flickers bathe you with soft light as you sit at your white linen table set with silver and fine crystal. Al fresco dining on the garden patio is also available. Live piano music on weekends lends even more romance to this setting, as do the embers in the fireplace. The cuisine is strictly Italian. Also offered is a full bar, offering over 40 wines by the glass.

Mountains to seafood

San Diego, CA 92101
United States
+1 619 291 6700

This restaurant is carving out a niche for itself with an extensive selection of meats and seafood, served in a beautiful Harbor Island location. Pleasant, casual surroundings let everyone enjoy the food and the view through the big windows. The signature dish may be the Sage and Pinon Nut Crusted Lamb, served with Chipotle-flavored Sweet Potatoes. Pork, often neglected on today's menus, makes a comeback appearance with a tenderloin portion crusted with herbs, white cheddar and a tri-colored peppercorn sauce.

Located near the San Diego International Airport at the far tip of Harbor Island, this landmark lighthouse-style restaurant has been delighting patrons for years. The bayside view is spectacular, with Navy ships along the opposite shore and plenty of sailboats passing in the channel. Seafood dishes are brilliantly prepared, but the restaurant also offers steaks and other meats. Patrons are generally casually dressed, and there is entertainment in the adjacent lounge most nights.
