The beautiful people of the "just over drinking age" set have discovered this small restaurant tucked within the favorite watering hole of Moose McGillycuddy's. Mexican food can be ordered a la carte or as combinations. One of the burritos (prices vary by ingredients requested and grilled to order) is enough to fill you up for an entire afternoon. For the less adventurous, hamburgers and fries are filling, grilled to order and inexpensive. Beer and wine and margaritas are available to cool down the spicy salsa.

Old Trieste

Good and plenty
2335 Morena Boulevard
San Diego, CA 92110
United States
+1 619 276 1841
This traditional restaurant has been serving San Diego patrons for decades. The entrées run USD28-44, with most selections in the lower half of that range. There is an enforced dress code and jackets are required for men; not a place to pop into in shorts or other casual gear. The generously portioned rack of lamb and other meat-intense dishes are the favorites, but the restaurant also offers some lighter fare and seafood. The wine list is extensive and includes everything from reasonably-priced house wine to vintage splurges.

Lush green lawns, beautiful flower arrangements, candlelit tables, live jazz and piano music, and a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean make this restaurant a must for starry-eyed lovers. Add to that Chef Aaron's traditional cuisine, and you couldn't possibly ask for anything more. Grilled Greater Omaha Angus Filet, Pan Roasted Leg Of Lamb, Oven Roasted Pacific Wild King Salmon and other such delicacies fill the menu. There's also fine wine from different corners of the world. Located at the Hotel Del Coronado, it comes as no surprise then that Prince of Wales was voted 'Most Romantic Restaurant' by San Diego Magazine.

Seaside dining is the highlight at this restaurant. Observe the boats, sea gulls and the ocean tide while dining on fried clams! The setting is informal with an inside window where you order and take a number. An indoor seating area with Formica tables is where you wait for your number to be called when your freshly cooked order is ready. A variety of seafood favorites top the menu. Try the fried clams or fish and chips. For the more daring diner, Octopus Ceviche is featured on the menu.

The crowds at this Japanese sushi shop speak volumes about the quality of the fish and other Asian delicacies served up here. Look for the Omikasa Chef's Dinner Special, which changes daily but always provides good quality, quantity and value. In addition to the raw fish selections, you can also find sukiyaki, yakitori and other cooked entrees from the land of the rising sun. The service is pleasant and patient if you are a first-time sushi diner, always ready to make suggestions to assure a pleasant meal.

Look for entrees like steak, baked chicken, ribs, ziti, fish tacos and oyster shooters. There are 13 beers on tap. Drink specials are offered Monday through Friday from 4p-7p. This is truly a Southern California beach bar.

The High Dive

Upscale Diving
1801 Morena Boulevard
San Diego, CA 92110
United States
+1 619 275 0460
The self proclaimed "upscale dive bar & grill" has a great atmosphere both inside and out, as well as better-than-average bar food. The cozy High Dive has all the trapping of your typical dive bar, including stuffed elk heads hanging from the few places on the walls that aren't covered with posters and old license plates. Plastic palm trees decorate the pleasant outdoor seating area, which doesn't suffer too much for facing the freeway (glass panels shield most of the traffic noise). The High Dive has specials five nights a week; drop by on a Sunday for their USD2 taco special, or on Thursday for half-off appetizers. A great place for dinner and a beer, the High Dive also serves breakfast daily. - Molly Watts
