This restaurant caters to those with a penchant for hot & spicy food. For over a quarter of a century, Celadon has managed to earn the respect of customers through constantly serving delicious Thai food. Incidentally, the chef has even cooked for the Siamese royal family. On the menu, you'll find the best and the rarest dishes under the Chef's Specialty items. Go for anything...duck, chicken, or seafood. It's all good. And very affordable.

There is a wide and varied menu that offers well-prepared classic dishes such as Paht Thai, Mee Krob and other Siamese favorites. The Grilled Barbecued Chicken is outstanding and well worth a try. All of these culinary delights are served in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.

Despite the fact that this restaurant doesn't get very busy, the hooked diners who keep returning will tell you La Basil consistently serves fresh and delicious food. Known for their house curry, this place is surprisingly cheap considering the variety on the menu and the classy feel given by the lighting and decorations. For a charming and low-key evening of dining, preferably with a date, this spot is worth hunting down.

This establishment was previously known as Lemon Grass, but has always been owned by the same family. Richly carved, comfortable furnishings greet diners. The food is splendid, combining fresh ingredients with the endless array of spices and flavorings typical of Thai cuisine. Start with the Siam Forest Salad, with its unique peanut-based dressing over snapping-fresh greens, firm bean curd, cucumbers and tomatoes. For an entree, consider the Royal Duckling, a half duck marinated in spices and served with several tasty sauces.

This restaurant is located next to popular specialty shops along the Highway 101 Encinitas Mainstreet. The storefront establishment is appropriate for both informal business and leisure occasions. Statues of Buddha sit on shelves throughout the spacious dining area and various artifacts, such as bronze butterflies, cover the walls. Rice and noodle dishes are customer favorites. Of course, the House Specials are also popular including Roast Duck, Honey Spare Ribs and Princess Favorite Duckling.

Though located just two blocks from one of the largest tourist convergences, this area tends to quiet down a bit in the evenings. Standard Thai entrees such as Pad Thai, Satay, Curry and Glazed Duck are on the menu. House specialties known as "Gold Bags" are also served, consisting of minced pork, herbs and vegetables wrapped in rice paper. You can also choose "Gold Bags" that contain roast duck or spicy calamari. If you want a romantic atmosphere, be sure to reserve one of the tables out on the front covered patio.

The most die-hard Thai food lover will be pleased by the taste and presentation of the food at Spice and Rice. The house specialty known as "Gold Bags", rice paper wraps filled with your choice of pork or glazed duck, is a unique take on food that is already bursting with savory flavors. Like their prices, this restaurant is small, but don't be discouraged by rubbing your elbows with the regulars; this place is too good to pass up.

Other dishes range in spiciness and only the brave gourmet should ask for extra hot. There are traditional vegetarian dishes available as well. Thai Foon

Will blow your taste buds away
540 University Avenue
San Diego, CA 92103
United States
+1 619 297 8424
This cheerful, quirky Thai restaurant is located in the heart of Hillcrest. The typhoon theme, with blown-away objects glued to the walls, may not please everyone as a restaurant interior, but it is different. Mirrored walls and the street-side windows enhance the perceived size of what is a small restaurant space. Noodle dishes are available with your choice of meat (or vegetarian textured tofu).

Thai Garden

A pleasant surprise
4750 Oceanside Boulevard
Suite A-18
San Diego, CA 92056
United States
+1 760 940 1009
This storefront restaurant does not appear extravagant from the outside. Yet, once inside, the ornate decorations and incredible entrees pleasantly surprise guests. Just inside the front door, a full-size gold sculpture greets visitors and traditional tunes of the Orient fill the air. Lunch specials include an entree, soup and salad. For dinner, one top entree is Masaman (Masaman curry with coconut milk, potatoes, onion and peanuts). Red Curry (consisting of red curry paste with coconut milk, eggplant, bamboo shoots, bell pepper and basil) is also popular.

Curry everyone!

Hankering for curry? Head to this gem in Pacific Beach whose unassuming facade does not begin to hint at the delectable fiery dishes that await within. The only snag comes from actually having to choose from the wide selection of Thai, Indian, Japanese, Caribbean and Singaporean curries on the menu. For the undecided, the Panang and Mussaman curries are excellent. Or better yet, bring friends and try them all. The menu is very reasonably priced, making this a tasty budget choice.
