French breadmaking aesthetics |
2325 Pine Street (between Fillmore and Steiner streets) San Francisco, CA 94115 +1 415 440 0356 |
Inside the blue and mustard exterior that resembles an art naif painting, the goods are baked on the premises only a few feet from the display counter, leaving the glorious aroma of baking hanging heavy in the air. The brioche sucre adds just the right note of sweetness to a flawless, light-as-a-feather brioche with a tantalizing soupcon of a buttery aftertaste. There are also croques monsieur awash in gruyere, and individually sized breakfast loaves (try the fig) offered from $2-$3. A few tarts (prices vary) are available, but, fittingly, it is the bread with which this boulangerie makes its mark. Cash only. Review © 2009, Wcities |
