What began as a smallish nook of a bookstore devoted to travel guides and travel writing, now takes up two buildings. In addition to its extensive new and used on-hand stock of literature, this local favorite has also become a virtual bookstore as well. The travel section is still one of the best in the Bay Area. There's always a lot going on here, between the reading groups, panel discussions, classes, newsletters, and a continuous stream of author readings by some of the most noted authors of our time; Isabelle Allende, who lives in the neighborhood, can sometimes be spotted in the bookstore's cafe. You'll find a large, friendly, and knowledgeable staff (over 50 strong!) is refreshingly passionate about books. Review © 2009, Wcities |
