The Brooks Island Regional Shoreline is East Bay Parks protected land located off Point Richmond. The 373-acre island isn't very well known in the Bay Area. Visitors must make reservations at least a week in advance to see it and provide their own transportation onto the island. The land originally was settled by the Ohlone Indians; some of the shell-mounds and burial sites on the island date back more than 2,500 years. It is also a bird sanctuary, with a variety of wildlife and walking trails, but few facilities. Review © 2009, Wcities |
