The Chinese New Year Spectacular at the Orpheum Theatre presents traditional Chinese dance, song and acrobatics to please young and old with performances that cannot be seen in present-day China. Guests are guided through the show by hosts Jared and Kelly who make announcements in English and Chinese, and provide endless banter on everything from how to say "Happy New Year" in Chinese to ancient text messaging on massive bone tablets. Vocal performances are provided by a soprano, tenor and bass, accompanied by the piano and all song lyrics are projected onto the enormous multimedia screen in Chinese and English. The dances vary from group performances rather than solo ones, ranging from the Mongolian Bowl Dance to a modern-day dance of two teenagers who find themselves in an abandoned temple. Instrumental performances includes solos on the Chinese zither. All performances are accompanied by a full orchestra of Western and Chinese instruments. There is even outdoor entertainment before and after the show with drummers and two dancing Chinese dragons. Come to learn more about traditional Chinese song and dance from the New York-based group, Diving Performing Arts. Showtimes: W & F-Sa 2p & 8p; Th 8p. Tickets: $28-$180. -Julianne L.
