Three-time Golden Globe winner Cybill Shepherd (Moonlighting, Taxi Driver, The Last Picture Show, Cybill, The L Word) stars in the one-woman show Curvy Widow, a modern comedy about love in cyberspace at San Francisco's Post Street Theatre inside the Kensington Hotel. This is an autobiographical play, written by Bobby Goldman, widow of James Goldman, (author of The Lion in Winter) and her adopted the philosophy of dating only successful, married men whose wives are not employed. The Curvy Widow is a successful, 57 year-old businesswoman dealing with the loss of her husband (who was 24 years her senior) and the loss of numerous boyfriends and hook-ups through websites. Set in Manhattan and Vero Beach, Florida, the Curvy Widow embarks on a quest to find the perfect match. She starts off by signing up on Match.com and filling out a questionnaire - and doing her best to be honest about her age and appearance. The first dates are either too old or too young, always remarking on the age difference. Finally, the Curvy Widow settles on more adult-only, men-seeking-sex websites, finding the perfect match in having her pick of thousands of men who find her willingness to sign up for such a site appealing. Curvy Widow is a hilarious look at modern courtship and dating over the age of 50 in America. This 90-minute, one-act play is not suitable for those 16 and under. Showtimes: W-F 8p, Sa 3p & 8p, Su 3p & 7p. Tickets: $50-$75. -Julianne L. Miller Review © 2009, Wcities |
