Founded during the Prohibition, the Empire Plush Room survives today as a San Francisco landmark. In the 1920s, the Plush Room was the most glamorous speakeasy in town, illegally serving alcohol to socialites, gangsters and movie stars. The club was kept top-secret; guests then, as now, passed through an elaborate labyrinth of passageways to reach the entrance. Today, the Plush Room is still a prime destination for live comedy, cabaret, and jazz, and still attracts a high profile and sophisticated crowd.
