Wine by the Glass with Casual Class |
620 Post Street San Francisco, CA 94109 415 674 3567 http://www.thehiddenvine.com |
Located in back of the Old Fitzgerald Hotel, with an alley entrance and descending staircase, this cozy little wine bar is fast becoming a favorite kept secret among Bay Area wine lovers, connoisseurs and amateurs alike. Owners David and Angela Cahill gave up their professional careers in favor of opening an intimate, casual wine bar where people could appreciate each others' company and conversation as much as they could fine wines from small distribution vineyards around the world. As obvious as the concept seems, theirs is a rare establishment compared to many urban wine bars, which tend towards the bustling and/or the pretentious (not to mention expensive.) The Hidden Vine can't stay secret for long, especially after a number of glowing reviews and a place on the SF Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay 2007" list. Visitors love the comfortable atmosphere with its deep cushy couches, richly-colored decor, and soft candle light. They are equally taken with the unimposing warmth of the two owners, who share their love and knowledge of fine wines with quiet enthusiasm. Each month, the Hidden Vine features wines from different regions, always keeping some excellent California varieties in stock. Fine cheeses, charcuterie, and chocolates are served as well - come on a Thursday night, when complimentary cheese plates are offered from 6-9pm, and check their website for special events.
