Needles + Pens is a boutique shop that is distinctly Mission District. "Needles" refers to the fact that the place stocks a bevy of lovely homemade clothing articles and accessories (sewn or knit with needles of course). "Pens" refers to the fact that it also stocks a comprehensive selection of locally and internationally produced zines, magazines and newsletters (many of which required a pen or two during the production process). Bike messengers stop in for punk rock-style belts, bracelets and patches. Neighborhood moms come by for hand-knit baby clothes. Mission bohemians pass through for the latest in independently produced counter-cultural literature. You can patronize this place for whatever of those items may strike your fancy - or any number of other little hand-made DIY surprises that are always on offer.
