The fact that this down-home diner sits next to the produce market means that the lettuce and tomato on your juicy burger or the avocado in your omelette will be as fresh as it gets in an Oakland restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and the clientele is a mix of the working class and upscale professionals who have discovered the great food, huge portions and low prices to be found here. The pork chops with apple rings are a particular favorite with the lunch crowd and, in a foray into a more chi-chi cuisine, enormous dinner crepes are served after 5p and are delicious.
