Poggio's is the child of restaurateur, Larry Mindel, who was awarded the Caterina de Medici Medal in 1985. The honor is bestowed by the Italian government for excellency in preservation of Italian culture and heritage outside of Italy. "Poggio" is the Italian word for hillside and the restaurant, surrounded by oceanic Sausalito scenery, lives up to its name. It serves northern-Italian dishes with ingredients rarely found outside of Italy, like gypsy peppers and ovoli mushrooms. Poggio's dinner service begins at 5:30p.m. For lunch, which is served between 11:30a-5:30p, try one of their paninis. The menu changes daily in order to take advantage of the freshest, seasonal, and locally-grown ingredients.
