Cheers! |
1514 Union Street San Francisco, CA 94123-4505 United States +1 415 928 2414 http://www.sfblackhorsepub.com... |
This tiny storefront does a remarkable impression of an authentic London pub. It might not have the seasoned wood paneling of the Old World version, but it does have a lived-in charm and a good chunk of SF's ex-pat Brit population downing pints of Guinness and plates of bangers and mash. You can also have game of darts while keeping up with the latest soccer match on the bar's television. The counter staff is cheerful as it dishes up a plate of blood sausage or makes an all-American BLT. An added plus to some, smoking is allowed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Taking on the west coast one store at a time. The designer wares loved by New Yorkers are now in San Francisco. Irish breakfast spot |
654 Irving Street (at the corner of Eighth Avenue) San Francisco, CA 94122 United States +1 415 665 3633 |
This popular cafe serves breakfast all day long and does so with quick and friendly service. Although it is open for lunch and dinner, many come here for the cheap breakfasts and Sunday brunch. The long, narrow interior consists of several small tables set against a window, and a substantial bar lined with wooden stools. Plastic chairs and tables are scattered outside on the sidewalk. A traditional Irish breakfast is the house specialty. The daily breakfast special for right around $5 includes two eggs, two pieces of bacon or sausage, and a choice of French toast or banana or blueberry pancakes. For the lunch-minded, the menu features an impressive selection of burgers and sandwiches. Note: Cash only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

British Booze & Grub |
424 Clay Street (Between Battery Street & Sansome Street) San Francisco, CA 94111 United States +1 415 268 3900 http://www.elephantandcastle.com |
When you hear Elephant & Castle, food may not be the first thing that comes to you mind. But once you arrive and the drinks start flowing, you won't remember what first came to you mind anyway. Elephant & Castle serves classic English pub food like Fish & Chips, but also goes for more American fare like roast beef sandwiches and spinach dip with tortilla chips. The bar has a laundry list of beers on tap and plenty of liquor to make most concoctions you can think up. Come on a Thursday night and see how well your drunken trivia knowledge holds up. Authentic Irish Experience |
245 Front St San Francisco, CA 94111 United States +1 415 392 7595 |
If you're looking for a great place for a drink after work, Harrington's couldn't be more obvious. They serve all your favorite pub grub: burgers, salads, and sandwiches so you'll never go hungry either. This is very popular with the 20-somethings working in the Financial District, so its a great place to meet people. There is also a patio if you feel like an afternoon lunch. The atmosphere is usually very relaxed, but as the after-work crowd comes in it can get noisy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Visit Ireland for the day |
10 Mark Lane San Francisco, CA 94108 United States +1 415 788 7152 http://www.theirishbank.com/ |
Housed in an old Irish hostelry, this authentic pub is popular with all The City's ethnicities, local and visiting alike. The brick walls are covered in photos, antiques, and many other things Irish, and there is a wide selection of beers and spirits. The food is an interesting Celtic-California combo, served while UK rock plays in the background. Enjoy a Burger-n-Fries or Grilled Salmon and a pint. Review © 2007, Wcities |

John Campbell's Irish Bakery is the place you want to be for its choice selection of hot-oven savory delights. For more than 30 years, John Campbell has been satisfying hungry appetites here in San Francisco, as well as in his native Belfast. Not for nothing does John hold the order of the Master Baker of Belfast, and the City and Guilds Bakery Certificate. Some Irish specialties you'll find are crusty bread, soda bread, brown bread, and batch bread, among other delectables. The Sultana Scones are all mouth-watering and they alone will surely make you come back for more. Drop in any day of the week after 7a and pick up one or several of John Campbell's delights -- you'll be glad you did. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Go downstairs in this double-decker Irish pub and pull up a stool to drink and mingle. There are plenty of good beers and liquors to choose from, and the friendly crowd is easy to approach. Upstairs, a tiny dance floor and great music offer the perfect way to get closer. Kate's also offers a full menu for table service. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Next best thing to Ireland! |

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub in San Francisco has a warm ambiance inside an original Barbary Coast building. Brick walls rise high above a classic long bar that stretches back into the primary dining area. Old oak flooring, some private wood booths and central tables with white table cloths combine to create a serious dining atmosphere. An interesting and unexpected menu with creative flair offers classic favorites as well as innovative dishes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Not just potatoes |
998 Guerrero Street (at the corner of 22nd Street) San Francisco, CA 94110 United States +1 415 282 6789 http://www.theliberties.com |
This rustic looking restaurant-bar may be the only Irish fusion cuisine place in the whole world. It is certainly the only one in The City. You can find fish and chips, though risotto can be substituted for the chips. You will also find traditional black-and-white pudding but served on bruschetta and topped with stewed apples tinged with cumin. The bar has single-malt Irish Whiskeys, of course, but the Guiness is available as an ice cream (it is unexpected but delicious). The wait staff, speaking in a lilting brogue, is personable and efficient. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Traditional English tearoom |
1351 Church Street (at the corner of Clipper Street) San Francisco, CA 94114 United States +1 415 648 5895 http://www.lovejoystearoom.com/ |
Nestled in Noe Valley, this small treasure recently moved from its tidy storefront to a new, larger location. It is still full of overstuffed furniture, china bric-a-brac, and brimming with charm, though. The food is exquisite here. The bread in the finger sandwiches are so fresh that they melt in your mouth. The owner serves traditional English teas and makes every customer feel special with her warm welcome. High tea is $12.95 and if you fancy the teapot your Earl Grey came in, it is for sale. Note: Cash only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

England West |
1533 Fourth Street San Francisco, CA 94901-2769 United States +1 415 456 1011 |
Far from the actual British Isles set in the proverbial silver sea is this English pub that is as close to the real thing as it gets in Northern California. The place is hopping with dart games in the bar and hearty pub fare in the restaurant, including what aficionados have described as a particularly toothsome steak and kidney pie. There is also Shepherd's Pie, fish and chips and a sherry trifle that is rich and maybe a bit too strong for the kids who have their own menu here. The mood is rollicking but not riotous for the local regulars with the wait staff making everything run smoothly in the party atmosphere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Smiling Irish eyes |
622 Green Street San Francisco, CA 94133 United States +1 415 989 6222 http://www.oreillysirish.com/ |
One of North Beachs favorite Irish bars, this spot features a full bar, patio seating and authentic Irish cuisine. The weekend brunch is a popular event during which happy customers enjoy Irish coffees and corned beef hash. A friendly and casual place, the place is structured more like a pub than a restaurant with its long mahogany bar and iron tables on the patio. The menu is vast, not short of meat and potato dishes and Irish style pub grub like Celtic nachos and chicken wings. Sit and snack at the long mahogany bar with a pint of Guinness alone or with friends. Review © 2007, Wcities |
