Italian delight |

C'era Una Volta is perfect if you're looking for a trendy place for a hearty meal. Word is that the service can be a little slow and unfriendly, but don't let this dampen your spirit. The food is fresh, presentable and reasonably priced; especially the gnocchi in meat chianti sauce and Ravioli del Mare, which are recommended. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Romantic Euro-Mediterranean bistro |

This lovely little place might be easy to miss. That would be a shame for anyone who appreciates thoughtfully prepared, artfully executed little masterpieces in flavor served by a terrific wait staff. For starters, how about a warm crepe timbale filled with goat cheese, corn, and baby spinach? It is savory without being too heavy. Entrees include standards such as roast salmon or pork tenderloins, as well as some items unique to the menu, such as the Turkish Fish Chowder, for instance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Czech it out |
584 Pacific Avenue San Francisco, CA 94133-4608 United States +1 415 433 3811 |
Czech ex-pats, tourists, and locals sit under the starry ceiling here for poetry readings and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The rest of the time they are enjoying soups, sandwiches and good espresso served up by the personable Czech and Czech-wannabe staff, both inside and on the sidewalk seating that spills out from the bright yellow storefront. The mood is mellow except during soccer matches featuring the Czech national team, shown on the cafe's large-screen TV, then the place is packed with boisterous fans who take each goal and penalty personally. New York-Style Tradition |

This is not your average west-coast sandwich joint. The California Street Delicatessen & Cafe is a strong-willed recreation of an authentic New York deli, complete with attitude and hustle 'n' bustle. Come in and enjoy heartwarming matzo-ball soups, rich smoked-fish platters, hearty brisket sandwiches and a real egg cream to wash it all down. You can even order from a list of full-size dinner plates. Stuffed cabbage or homemade meatloaf anyone? And, okay, since this is the west coast, it should be noted that all the meats and produce here come from the finest local purveyors. See website for menu, by-the-pound menu, photos and more. Go Green |
Building A, Fort Mason Center (at Buchanan & Marina Streets) San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 771 6222 http://www.greensrestaurant.com/ |
Soft Polenta with grilled portobello mushrooms, sauteed spring greens and shaved mezo Vella secco - now that sounds like music to the stomach! But these Mediterranean musings are many, thrown in with a lot of green choices. Sometimes it's baby leeks, asparagus with feta or manchegi cheese; while other times it's garden lettuces and nicoise olives! Walk in and find out which ingredient is served how as you take in the spectacular panorama of the sea. And when munching on your entrees, watch the boats on the Pacific bob to and fro! Keep in mind, the takeout window is open every day as well. See website for menus and more. Review © 2007, Wcities |
