For a change of pace, come to this pleasant, cheery eatery. Take your pick of two dozen tapas platters, or go for a huge plate of Paella. Wash it all down with cold sangria poured from stone jugs. Tapas selections, which include Half a Roast Quail with Fried Potatoes or New Potatoes with Aioli, are the perfect solution for diners who cannot make decisions. Some people opt for the Paella, a full meal for around USD20. Any way you eat it, you cannot go wrong. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Crispy crust |
2033 Union Street San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 885 4500 |
For traditional, East Coast-style pizza, check out this pizzeria that cooks its pizza in a wood-burning brick oven so the crust comes out crisp, dark, and delicious. Enjoy it inside the traditional pizzeria with its even more traditional red-and-white checked tablecloths, or outside in the outdoor patio area. Pizza pies are named after famous East Coast cities. The Philly, for example, is topped with turkey sausage, sauteed onions and roasted bell peppers. Other popular varieties include the Greek Isle (sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, feta and mozzarella cheese). Review © 2007, Wcities |

Looking much like an old-money hacienda, this neighborhood favorite is rich with imported tile, murals, carved wood and a welcoming fireplace. The food is the usual mix of enchiladas, rice plates, burritos and the like, but made with fresh ingredients in combinations that change with the season. Try the Roast Chicken spiked with lime and traditional spices. Tequila, sangria, Mexican beer, and agua frescas in wonderful flavors such as mango and watermelon are the perfect accompaniment either in the cozy dining area or the lovely patio. The service is fast and friendly. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This neighborhood bistro is small but welcoming, strictly serving affordable French cuisine. Located in the Presidio Heights district, it has been recognized as one of the city's Top 100 restaurants by the San Francisco Chronicle. This is no small feat considering the competition. The atmosphere is that of a typical bistro, simple, clean and comfortable. Outdoor seating is limited but available. Dinner entrees include Sonoma Rabbit in a light Dijon sauce served with pasta and fresh vegetables and a Ragout of Lamb served with Duchesse potatoes. The wine list is adequate with a nice selection of Californian and French champagne, white, red, and sparkling wines (prices vary). You will find that everything is wonderful, from the Escargots Forrestiere to the Creme Brulee. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Parking in the Marina, especially around the dinner hour, can be a nightmare. This is one restaurant that makes the struggle worthwhile. West Coast meets Western European in the casual chic decor and in the innovative menu here. Steak is the main draw here, although there are excellent seafood and chops as well. Each main dish comes with two side dishes. Named after an old-time San Francisco restaurateur, this restaurant has much of a traditional boys-club feeling to it. With dim lighting, no-nonsense service and lots of San Francisco memorabilia decorating the walls, this is a quintessential example of what a steak house should be. This trendy lunch and dinner joint has one of the healthiest menus in the city. Set amidst the chic Chestnut Street boutiques, Lettus Cafe features an internationally inspired vegan-friendly menu, chock-full of organic and fresh-to-order entrees. Generally speaking, it attracts the hip and health conscious marina crowd, so more often than not, thin ladies and overly-tanned men can be seen lining up around the block for Mango Lime Chicken paninis, open faced crab cake sandwiches, and the Gardenbuger, which is by far the house favorite. The rustic decor is swanky and inviting, but if you're in a hurry, there's a 'grab-and-go' option. Portions are on the large side, so you certainly get what you pay for. If you have never had Tibetan food before, which is probably the case, then you are in for a treat at Lhasa Moon. It is some of the heartiest and most comforting of Asian cuisines. This cozy restaurant serves delicious renditions of Himalayan favorites like Momo dumplings, Phiing Alla (a crepe stuffed with vegetables), and lamb with daikon simmered in vegetable broth. This place has been in business since 1929 and the narrow linoleum floors, a counter that runs the length of the store, and the shelves stocked floor-to-ceiling with a cornucopia of delicious Italian foods have not changed much since then. Still run by the Bosco family, it is always stocked with hand-rolled ravioli, a locally famous spinach frittata, and a variety of house-made pasta sauces available by the pint. The selection of imported Italian cheese and meats is second to none in The City, and the service is friendly. This is a great place to stop in for a sandwich made to order (expect a line of Marina locals at lunchtime), or to pick up the fixings for a great dinner to make yourself at home. Or just drop in to marvel at how many different kinds of imported olives one deli can find to stock. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Natural tones, blue walls, a terracotta kitchen and magical star-shaped lights create a highly inviting space at Mamacita. Furthermore, the rustic Mexican touches like the tin bar and the cacti lend the perfect ambience. The authentic cuisine, made with the freshest of ingredients, goes down well with the restaurant specialty, the tasty Pomegranate Margarita. This restaurant is known for its Japanese and Californian styled sushi. So let the good times roll with Five-Spice Chicken Spring Rolls, Albacore Tataki and Seaweed Salad. The sushi - ebi, unagi, hotate or maguro - are created under chef Michael Terada's watchful eye. Maki Rolls and Freestyle Tacos are also appetizing. The 'all you can eat' sushi for $20 on Sundays is a hit. Beer, wine and sake flow freely. Music by DJs, jukebox and live bands adds to the fun. Review © 2007, Wcities |

An SF landmark |
2165 Lombard Street (Between Fillmore and Steiner Streets) San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 921 3039 |
Although you do have to find parking and wait for a seat at this ultra-popular diner, otherwise it is the epitome of an old school place for burgers and shakes. Hamburgers and fries, in several different variations, are served up in huge portions. A Blue Plate Special is always available and there are plenty of fattening appetizers (fried cheese sticks, onion rings) and sinful desserts (bread pudding with whipped cream). The service is sprightly and friendly. Note: Cash only. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bartending for fun |

Mercury Appetizer Bar has an energetic air about it that can transform an ordinary evening into a rocking one. The cocktails are adventurous fusions with a distinct flavor. Food is also an exciting affair with the delectable range of American as well as Pan-Asian cuisines. Try the wasabi and vodka twisted sake'tini or the ginger infused champagne cocktail to awaken unknown tastes. There are noodles or rice with a different touch along with spicy pork and beef preparations. Desserts for just USD6 are sure to find their way to your stomach and heart. Creative guests could also try a hand at bartending. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Hip and happening |
2084 Chestnut Street San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 771 1168 |
Constant techno music, a plasma TV behind the sushi counter, and an otherwise starkly decorated room creates the feel of standing on the set of "Blade Runner." Yet, in a weird way it provides a refreshing orbital pause from the usual sushi house décor of bamboo plants and dragon motifs. The food rates superb, especially the Robata Grilled Baby Lobster Tails. The sushi roll options are vast, avoiding the ho-hum plight that plagues some of the area's better-known sushi restaurants. This is a must dining stop for anyone seeking a snap from the ordinary. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wine & Dine in Style |
3330 Steiner Street San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 345 1377 http://www.nectarwinelounge.com |
It may be absolutely impossible to add more modern flair and class to a small plate restaurant, but the Nectar Wine Lounge has been attempting this feat nightly since first opening. Located in the Marina district, Nectar has gained a reputation for their excellent and frequently changing pairings of unique Italian dishes with one of over 40 different wines. The restaurant also has an interior that rivals, yet compliments its menus originality. With small intimate booths and pastel walls dotted with sharp blasts of blue, red, and green panels the setting is perfect for intimate meals or dinner with a small group of friends. Japanese favorite offers value |
3145 Fillmore (Between Greenwich and Filbert) San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 931 8898 http://www.osomesushi.com/ |
This venerable spot has many adherents. One reason it might have been named the Top Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar in a San Francisco Chronicle poll. One of the things patrons seem to like about this simple spot is that they feel it offers more for their money than other Japanese establishments. The food is good, though, and the chefs do not feel a need to be clever with their sushi. The teriyaki and tempura dishes are simple and straightforward, and satisfying. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Who says branded labels of wine are always the best? At Ottismista, you can get acquainted with some of the finest wines produced in Northern Italy. And to add some more flavor to your visit, select from the well-designed menu that features small bites prepared with fresh local organic ingredients. Wines to go with a few of the larger dishes are suggested in the menu itself. The eatery plays host to wine-sampling events and cookery demos too. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good Italian great prices |
1550 Bryant Street San Francisco, CA 94103 United States +1 415 431 2681 http://www.pastapomodoro.com |
Although it has locations in the East and North Bay, this wonderful little chain used to be unique to San Francisco. The owner's original concept was to open a restaurant which featured the tastiest Italian classics at the lowest possible prices. He continues to remain true to his vision, much to everyone's delight. Sample Skillet Roasted Mussels, Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare, or Chicken Caesar Salad with Pecorino Cheese. Each dish costs under $10. If you are really hungry, you could order all three of them and still have a tab under $25. It has locations throughout the Bay Area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

"The Lobsters are coming!" shrieks Perry's ads in every local newspaper. And the lobsters, which arrive every Wednesday and Saturday, are probably one of the best meal deals in town. The specials, priced under $25 (including bread and salad), keep this upscale spot hopping on these two days. The rest of the week the restaurant is a casual yet classy place to enjoy a martini and a steak. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Go-getters and go-watchers |
3199 Fillmore Street At Greenwich San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 921 3944 http://www.plumpjack.com/balbo... |
This point of the infamous Cow Hollow Triangle (also including the Pierce Street Annex and the Golden Gate Grill) was revitalized by new local ownership some time ago. The erstwhile fern bar is one of the latest and busiest meeting ground for SF's young, professional and available. Go-getters and go-watchers alike will find plenty to enjoy here. Menu offerings fluctuate by season; lunch and dinner specials are offered daily. Some of its favorite dishes include Seared Ahi (with ragout of autumn mushrooms, black truffles and Banyuls Vinaigrette), pasta du jour, and New York steak served with red chard, mashed potatoes and Point Reyes Blue Cheese & red wine sauce. A recent poll in a local paper dubbed this Marina favorite the "best place to take your visiting parents." It's also quite a hit with the younger generation of stockbrokers and socialites who populate the Union Street district. California Cuisine is offered here; the type that utilizes local produce and simpler flavor combinations. Try the Roast Duck Breast or Grilled Salmon, and definitely choose a bottle from the surrounding wine racks to complement your meal. A good bottle starts at $20. Review © 2007, Wcities |

To experience both tasty Italian cuisine and hip San Francisco nightlife, Prego is your place. Providing a festive dinner atmosphere, modern decor, great food and plenty of spirits answers the Friday night dinner question about where to have dinner. The menu is vast and everything is good. The homemade pasta dishes come with unexpected twists in varieties like Gnocchi con Anatra, Potato Dumplings with Duck Ragout, Hazelnuts and Parmesan, and Garganelli alla Vodka, hand-rolled quill pasta with salmon, basil and a vodka cream sauce. In the meat department find Rack of Lamb, Veal Chops, and traditional boiled meats with assorted vegetables. Both domestic and Italian wines are available. Prices vary but $10 will get you a good bottle. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Marina Italian |
3314 Steiner Street San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 567 0500 |
For a fine Italian dinner in the Marina, try this neighborhood favorite. The narrow but comfortable dining room is simple and charming with whitewashed brick walls. The pasta is a good choice in varieties like Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Penne, Gnocchi in a Tomato and Parmesan Sauce, and Fettuccini with Prosciutto and Peas in a Cream Sauce. For delicious meat or fish dishes, try the catch of the day, or Prawns, sauteed in White Wine, Butter and Garlic, Filet Mignon, Veal Piccata, or the Pork Loin in a Wild Mushroom Sauce. The wine list offers California and Italian wines to complement your meal. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Menu items include Fusilli Pasta cooked to perfection and tossed with broccoli, chiles and anchovies and a variety of focaccia pizzas. Silver Cloud attracts a good mix of the old and young. With the fun loving crowd of exciting Marina District, this karaoke bar hits just the right chords. Come here for an enjoyable time over drinks and food that is reasonably priced. Seafood served in the elegant dinner room overlooking the patio garden is a delectable treat. The front room, hosting the karaoke, is more casual. There is Australian lobster tails and yummy crab cakes that you just cant miss. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sushi feeding station |
1785 Union Street (between Octavia and Gough streets) San Francisco, CA 94123 United States +1 415 346 5070 |
Sushi Chardonnay? What is this? It is one of the only places with a sushi smorgasbord, an all-you can eat dinner-buffet with sushi, tempura, and other seafood laid out for the taking. There is a charge for wasted food. Most of the dinner clientele is hard-charging, upwardly mobile types living in the nearby Marina and Pacific Heights. There is a kind of a party atmosphere every night in this roomy but usually crowded restaurant. The food is fresh and good, but the emphasis is on quantity over quality. Beer and sake are available, as is a wine list longer than that found in most Japanese restaurants. Review © 2007, Wcities |
