This homestyle bookstore is a favorite with those in the interior design profession because of the Hayes Valley shop's extensive selection of design books. But it is also a favorite with almost everyone else thanks to shopkeeper Richard Hilkert. It is not just the quality titles, rare biographies, and selection of classics that make this store so special, it is Hilkert's personable, old-fashioned style, which makes customers feel right at home.
