This is the oldest wildlife refuge in Northern California and provides a variety of programs at Lake Merritt. Stop by the wilderness center when you visit Lake Merritt and Lakeside Park, a huge lake and recreation facility in downtown Oakland where you can picnic and rent sail boats. In the summer and throughout the year, the center puts on day camps, classes, and events. Every day at 3p, the center hosts a bird feeding that anyone can join.
