When you want a no-nonsense, healthy lunch for less than $5, this downtown cafe is one of your best bets. Voted "best take-out" by readers of the San Francisco Bay Guardian, this place specializes in tasty and imaginative gourmet soups. The cafe features one long bar where you order soup, as well as plastic tables for dining inside and outside. Popular with downtown professionals, the soups are served with a big slab of fresh sourdough bread. Each day there are more than 10 kinds of soups to choose from. Popular varieties include Shrimp Bisque, Minnestrone with Pesto, Butternut Squash, Southwestern Corn Chowder, and Mexican Chicken Tortilla.
