This is Mecca for Pez cultists. As for the rest of us, if you have to ask, "What is Pez?" then this is probably not the place for you. But if the fringes of American pop culture interest you, it is worth a visit. Exhibits include the rare Pez make-a-face, worth $4,000-5,000. In addition to the candy and dispensers, the museum store also sells stop-and-smell t-shirts (smells just like a strawberry Pez), Pez banks, Pez porcelain boxes, Pez pens, and pretty much anything else related to the cult of Pez. Burlingame is about 20 minutes south of San Francisco, depending on traffic.

Great White Adventures offers unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime trips to exotic destinations including the Farallon Islands, Isla Guadalupe, Fiji, and the Galapagos. Cage dive into the open Pacific waters and observe various species of sharks up close and personal. State-of-the-art equipment is used and safety is priority. Great White Adventures also works with the Marin County-based Marine Mammal Center in situations where the company's underwater expertise is needed. In a case where a 45-50 ton Humpback Whale was ensnared in hundreds of feet of crab fishing nets, off the North Coast's Farallon Islands, and close to death, a company diver undertook the delicate task of cutting this great creature free. This is not the normal activity of Great White Adventures but it is indicative of their strong connection with the sea.

This futuristic fantasy by Frank Lloyd Wright was designed by the master in 1957 but constructed piecemeal over several years thereafter. Its latest claim to fame is its extended appearance in the sci-fi flick, Gattaca. The film was a godsend to this architectural masterpiece. Though the outside, with its sky-blue barrel arch and towering golden spire, was still compelling, the inside was in a sorry state of disrepair despite being the seat of Marin County's government. A self-guided tour (45-60 minutes) is available from the information window of the Administration Wing.

Tours are free.

The Mountain View Cemetery is a large cemetery in Oakland, California. It was established in 1863 by a group of East Bay Pioneers under the California Rural Cemetery Act of 1859. The association they formed still operates the cemetery today. Mountain View was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who also designed New York City's Central Park and much of Stanford University.

Many of California's important historical figures, drawn by Olmsted's reputation, are buried here and there are many grandiose crypts in tribute to the wealthy who are buried there, so many that one section is known as "Millionaires' Row." Because of this, and its beautiful setting, the cemetery is a tourist draw and docents lead bi-monthly tours. Panoramic views of the entire Bay Area greet you among lush green hills spotted with Eucalyptus and Oak trees. Come here and watch the sunset (or the fog roll in) from an unparalleled vantage point, perched in the magnificent East Bay hills.

San Francisco Bay Model

Entertaining Scientific Tool

(between Olive & Nevada Streets)
San Francisco, CA 94965
United States
+1 415 332 3871
http://www.spn.usace.army.mil/...
At two acres, this indoor scale model of the San Francisco Bay and its tributaries is one of the largest in the world. Used by the Army Corps of Engineers for testing the environmental impact of shoreline development, toxic spills and weather conditions, it is open to the public and an impressive sight. A complex hydraulics system pumps water in and out of the model, mimicking the ebb and flow of the actual tides. For the budding ecologist, oceanographer or civil engineer, there is no better attraction. Who couldn't be interested in seeing the Bay Area reduced to a scale of 1000 to 1 horizontal feet? There is also an exhibit on the Liberty Ships that were built in this area during World War II. Admission is free.

St Patrick's Church

San Francisco landmark church
756 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA 94193
United States
+1 415 421 3730
http://www.stpatricksf.org/
This Roman Catholic church, dating from 1851, was founded to serve San Francisco's Irish community. That commitment is reflected in the church's gold, green and white decor. Note, for example, the green-tinted rose window over the choir. The columns on either side of the nave are Connemara green marble imported from Ireland itself. What makes this neo-Gothic church especially worth seeing are the Tiffany stained glass windows glowing brightly beneath the vaulted ceiling. There are also display cases with photographs of the extensive damage to St. Patrick's during the 1906 earthquake.
